Miles City Soup Kitchen

The Custer County Community Table is a shared ministry effort by community volunteers in the Miles City, MT area.

Our mission is simple: to provide healthy and appetizing meals to all in this community who come to us in need--to the poor, the hungry and the lonely. Our goal is to provide meals to those who are in need without reference to age, race, sex or religious affiliation.

In fulfilling this mission we are constantly reminded that when we show mercy to the least of God's children, we show mercy to Jesus Christ Himself.

We don't serve meals...we serve Jesus.

The Custer County Community Table provides meals at no cost; but also provides a place of hospitality and companionship for those in need, regardless of their faith. It is sustained by compassionate and committed volunteers and by the generous contributions of donors.

The Custer County Community Table is a center for ministry to our guests, to our volunteers and to the greater community. Our work is work of justice as we strive to recognize the worth and value of each individual. It is just one of the ways we respond to God's generosity to us.

We are hoping to open our doors soon and could use your help. Please donate. Miles City Soup Kitchen, P.O. Box 93, Miles City, MT 59301. All donations are tax deductible.

Where is your soup kitchen located? What will your hours be? Will you be requiring any kind of proof of need? Will you be needing volunteers?

Just a few question you might want to answer for those who might consider donating.

At this time, you must be over the age of 18 to volunteer in the Soup Kitchen. If your children are part of 4-H or church youth groups, we are encouraging them to help by raising awareness and funds.

We appreciate your interest!!

In the summer you should try to get a community garden going, where volunteers can raise food for the soup kitchen. When I lived and worked in Kansas City, the company I worked for had a community garden. We would raise over a TON of food to be given to the soup kitchen every season. We had volunteers from all parts of the company. Maybe you could get some businesses involved and people could volunteer on their lunch hour once a week to help tend the garden. If you get enough people, they would only have to volunteer, say, an hour a month. Our department had two people go at a time. Anyway, just a suggestion. Thanks.

I see you use two names? Which name would someone donate to as donating under the wrong name will cause tax issues for both your organization and the person donating.

You can make your check to the Miles City Soup Kitchen or the Custer County Community Table. We are registered in our 501c3 as Custer County Community Table (Miles City Soup Kithcen), so either will work.

The 501 c (3) for the soup litchen is listed under the "Custer County Community Table" with the IRS and makes no reference to the "Miles City Soup Kitchen"

I personally wrote and filed the application and it was approved as of Feb. 2010.

The proper donation for federal tax purposes should be made to CCCT (Custer County Community table).

Although the articles of incorporation filed with MT is subtitled Miles City Soup Kitchen that phrase does not appear on the Federal Documentation.

Just to be sure your getting the right info.

Have a great day, Jim

I hope we will be forgiven for not being able to serve a Thanksgiving day meal. We have only been open two and a half weeks and are really doing the best we can. We have been blessed with volunteers, groceries and supplies!

Scott and Mary cleaned and sanitized our last stainless steel table this morning. A huge thank you to RZ Welding for refashioning the top for us to make it usable. And to Tom for refinishing the cutting board on it.

Tanis and Kim finished up the painting this morning as well. Our "home" just keeps getting "homier"!

Special thanks to Bill and family and Karalee and family for the donation of the beef. It will be put to good use in the upcoming days!

We are looking for a coat-tree for our volunteers coats if anyone has one around that you don't use anymore.

Beef, chicken, broth, celery, carrots and onions top our grocery needs. And we can always use homemade cookies and bars.

Thanks to everyone who has made donations of time, money, groceries and supplies. We couldn't do it without you!!

Wendy, it's not me!! I work full-time so I'm just trying to do a little marketing and PR. We have a great staff of volunteers who work very hard to feed the hungry and lonely. Noone is paid, so we have a volunteer who makes sure the schedule gets filled each month. We have also been utilizing volunteers from the RSVP program.

We also couldn't do it without our generous donors--food, supplies, equipment and cash are helping us get a meal on the table three days a week. We want to serve nutritious meals so we try to include fruit or a salad each day, milk or yogurt when we have it available and a cookie for dessert.

Our soup menu is usually determined by what meat is in the freezer and we had a generous donation of most of a beef this fall, so we are serving a lot of soups with beef in them.
