any public land around that can be used to shoot a few rounds. What about Strawberry Hill Rec area? Yes, I will be utilizing a natural berm to shoot against.

Personal I recommend joining the Rod and Gun Club. It is only $20.00 a year, you get the code to the gate locks so you can use it any time and can buy a membership at Red Rocks Sporting Goods. I am not a current member so not up on all the club details but have been on and off when I delude myself that I will have enough time to do some shooting.

Back in the day, I used to go pop off a few rounds out on the Sheffield Road, around the various coulee dumps that abounded in the area.

But then, my day was around 1980.

I think legally you could shoot out at strawberry hill. I have let off about 10 rounds of .380 there. I would just be mindful of hikers in the area. Picking up your spent casings keeps the area clean too!

I really hate to use strawberry hill for plinking. Not all people pick up their garbage and,People hike and ride out there.Good way to get another access closed.there's other places to go.

Of course the shooting range would be the best place but if you're not interested in paying a fee then I'm with Gunnar on the garbage dumps out on Sheffield but it's been 15 years since I was out there so who knows if they're even still there.

the garbage dumps out on sheffeild road are closed because of people not picking up there junk and thinking it is a place to through away old fridges and freezers and anything else that they would have to pay to get rid of at the landfil. and all the people who abused it with off road use not staying on roads so i would pay the 30 bucks to go the rifle range and then you have shooting rests and a place to set up targets at 25 100 and 200 yards

$30.00 a year seams like a good deal to me and way less then the fine if you happen to pick the wrong spot.

Thanks for the insights. I will be heading to Red Rock to purchase a membership. Again, thanks for your assistance.

I used to go down to the dispatch office behind the courthouse and ask the Sheriff's office for the key to the police range out by the pumping plant. They took my ID in trade and then I brought back the key and they gave back my ID. Nice range for pistols, no rifles though. Close to town as well. Not sure if they still let folks do that.

The range out at Sunday Creek (Rod & Gun Club) is still the way to go. There are shooting tables and plenty of space for just about any type of gun. And I hear the county fixed the road up really nice this last summer but I haven't been on it yet.
