The Deadstring Brothers, a Detroit group whose sound is sometimes compared to the early 1970s Rolling Stones, will be in Miles City for one night only on Friday, Sept. 17.
Friday's show will begin at 8 p.m. in the Elks Fireside Room with a performance by Miles City's own Ryan Browning, a talented musician and songwriter whose gut-wrenching ballads are among the most popular performances at weekly open mic nights through the year.
Deadstring Brothers combine their blues-meets-country-rock sound with the storytelling tradition of artists like Hank Williams and Johnny Cash for an unforgettable performance in songs like "Sacred Heart," Heavy Load,""Ain't No Hidin' Love," and "Tennessee Sure Enough."
The group has been touring steadily since the 2004 release of their debut CD, "Starving Winter Report," sharing the stage with acts ranging from Shooter Jennings, Cat Power and Jesse Sykes to Giant Sand, My Morning Jacket, Drive by Truckers and the Mekons.
For their most recent release, "Sao Paolo," they have played shows in San Francisco, Calif., Portland, Ore. and Seattle, Wash. They come to Miles City after playing shows at the Silver Dollar in Butte, the Murray Bar in Livingston and Machinery Row in Great Falls, on a tour that will take them to Sioux Falls, S.D. and Minneapolis, Minn., then throughout the United Kingdom, Belgium, Sweden and the Netherlands.

The concert is sponsored by the Confluence, a performing arts group working to find a permanent home for live music and the arts in Miles City. The Confluence also hosts open mic night every week at the Elks, where area performers have the opportunity to perform for the enjoyment of local residents and visitors.
This concert will be the group's second effort to host live music in Miles City on a larger, but still intimate, scale. Tickets for the show are limited and going fast.
Drinks will be available for purchase at the Elks. Those over 21 should bring identification to purchase alcohol.
Tickets are available now at Kafe Utza and Buy Montana or online at http://confluenceperformingarts.com.
