2010 Cowboy Football
Posted by Slosh (+693) 12 years ago
Well let's get this started.
Cowboys open the season this Saturday at home against Powell at 7 p.m. What are your thoughts on the Cowboys this season? I have some pretty lofty expectations for the local boys.
And I signed up for a twitter account, mcstarsports, and I'll try to tweet from the games for those that aren't at the game, including other sports not just football.

I think the Boys will be good this year! I have ran the chains the last 4 yrs and get to see up close what is going on. If the boys don't clash within themselves and know it is a team event, they will do fine. Wattsy

Are they still only allowed to use wooden bats?

I am very excited to see how they do this year. I think it will be a pretty good season for them. Laurel and BC will be good again. I am glad we get Laurel at home late in the season while we are hopefully clicking on all cylinders. BC on the road is always tough. Go Cowboys.

Last year I expected a rebuild season for the Cowboys...and they went 7-3 and made the playoffs. That team only lost 6 seniors.

This year: if they can bring the same defense, bring an improved passing game and keep Cooley from having to do too much on his own, the sky's the limit.

You never know how a season will unfold, but I for one am feeling good about it.

Does anyone know if I can still buy a Cowboy card or is it too late?

I think Slosh should start a 2010 Brett Favre thread.

I still think that's the best thing I've ever written.

The best thing you will ever write will be Favre's retirement speach. Get after it please.

This just goes to show that Brett Favre can even hijack a highschool football conversation. Pretty impressive Brett now please retire.

Lets get back to the Cowboys.

I have, and have had, high expectations for this team. I truly think they are going to be a state championship contender.
Last year, the Cowboys only had three or four players with varsity experience and still went 7-3 and reached the playoffs. Now, they return 18 of 22 starters. The last time we returned that number of kids was in 2008, the last state championship. And that team was coming off a 2-7 season.
This team reminds me a lot of the 2005 Cowboy team (Regan, Begger, Sandau, Jess Fuhrman and that group). Great running quarterbacks (Regan in 05, Cooley in '10), leading good backfields. The biggest difference will be the speed at tailback. And both teams have outstanding offensive lines, but I think I'd give this years an edge in depth at least. This year's offensive line is big, averaging 6'3, 235, and really athletic.
Defensively, this could be another historic year.
Fun Fact for you- The two best scoring defenses in modern Cowboy history (1978-now) came in 2008 (8.8 ppg) and 2009 (9.0 ppg). The previous best defense was 1994 (11.9 ppg). Jeff Regan, who was an all-state linebacker on that 94 team, has built an outstanding defense in his first two years, and this one could be better.

Good info Slosh. Yeah I agree Jeff has done a great job with that defense and he has a great supporting cast of coaches too. I believe our coaching staff is one of the best in the state and have been since the days I played (1993-1996). I am getting the itch to watch some Cowboy football, can't wait until saturday night.

The 2008-2009 Cowboy football team was my senior year and the most fun I have EVER had watching football, concidering that two of my cousins (Kalfell and Singleton) were also seniors and the rest of the seniors had been with me since grade school, it was awesome and i have been missing it since. The seniors the year we were freshman said "you guys should win state your senior year" and they did. Our senior year these guys were Sophomores and a lot of our guys said the same things to them, I can really see these guys doing something good and I hope it happens! Cant wait to hear those cannons! hope im in town for a few home games!

...(sound of crickets chirping)...

...Brian Reed hasn't come-in to comment on this? I miss the impressive statistical info he shares, I must admit.

...perhaps after they play a game he will? Let's hope.

GOOD LUCK COWBOYS!!! Game one of what should be a great season is tonight.

Got lightning delay then called just after first quarter. The Boys were up 20-0 definately out sized the Powell team but I am looking forward to what looks like a fun year!

I noticed some of the Powell kids during the delay before they left. They wanted no part in playing the rest of that game. We were bigger, faster, stronger than they were and it really could have gotten ugly. I liked the balance on the offense (15 rushes, 8 passes). 215 total yards in just over a quarter was pretty impressive.

It should be mentioned that Ricky won the half-time football toss for Bobcat Tickets, with a throw that's worthy of anything to come from his beloved Broncos.
