Wind Scorpion

Found one of these by my front door when letting the cat out. Had to take it to the County Extension Agenency to have it indentified. Without looking it up, they didn't know what it was either.

How common are these in Montana, let alone around Miles City?

We had those nasty b*****s in Iraq. Only we called them camel spiders. They can bite the hell out of you.

I believe I have seen something like that around Miles City before. Only once that I know of.

There are actually around 900 varieties, there bite is not poisonous but can cause infections. They are also called wind spider, sun spider or camel spider as well as wind scorpion.

They live in desert areas, including the US and Mexico. They like warm arid climates and avoid the cold, so would only be seen during the summer here.

Most of the pictures of the spiders and of the bites are not true. The pictures of the spiders show them larger than they are, and a lot of the bite pictures are really from a different spider.
