Where can one get windshield chip repair?
Posted by Rob Reukauf (+110) 12 years ago
There used to be a place on Valley Drive East that advertised $20 chip repairs, but I don't believe it is in business any longer. A business in Williston advertises $20 in 20 minutes, or the repair is free. The places I have checked locally charge $50-60. Are there any more reasonable places that perform windshield repairs, or is this simply the going rate. Thanks for any info you may have.

I had a chip repaired at ABC Glass about .... well I guess 8 years ago. Might try Scott's Glass also.

I've had many chip repairs done. Both glass shops in town do them. I don't know what your auto policy dictates, but in my case the insurance paid for it, even though the shops in town are more expensive. I was told the insurance usually pays for the repair, as it is cheaper than replacement.

Umm... that is pretty reasonable. I had a chip fixed earlier this week at Novus here in Gillette and it was $80.00.

I've had ABC Glass and Scott's Glass fix chips in my windshields--$50 both places (and Scotts was $10 for each chip after the first one). Scott does a WONDERFUL job on chips that have cracked a little bit!

You might want to check with your insurance company. When I had mine fixed, I called them, they told me where to take it and the bill was sent straight to them. I paid nothing and did not have to wait to be reimbursed.

Some glass repair places will come to your car. And like it was said here, check with your insurance first. Glendive area has Bob's Body Shop.

Most insurance companies do not pay for rock chips anymore--they're gradually phasing it out.

I know someone in Billings if you're interested in having it done here. He only charges around twenty.

We have ours done at ABC Glass who bills our insurance - no expense to us. They are great; they pick up the vehicle and bring it back. Can't get much better than that!

A word of caution: I used my auto insurance to pay for rock-chip repairs one time. Several months afterward, I attempted to switch my auto insurance coverage, not even thinking about the repairs. The rock-chip repair showed up as claims against my policy (had both vehicles repaired) and was factored in when quoting coverage.

Mary B. I think you raise a very valid point. I've had a few paid for by insurance the last few years, and they become a permanent part of your claims history. I'd like to simply pay cash for a reasonable repair, and keep the insurance out of it. It seems as if there is no such thing as a free lunch-insurance claims included! If Kaci would like to post when her friend comes down to do repairs, I would be interested. It seems as if one says they are not using insurance and paying cash, especially on windshield replacement, the price usually drops by 1/2.

Jack's Body Shop does rock chip repair. They doe awesome work. If you vehicle has full coverage, insurance companies would rather pay for a rock chip than a new windshield. If you call you insurance ahead of time, they will authorize the shop to bill them direct no deductible, no payment on your part. I have had 4 done in the last month. Three at one time and then a couple of weeks later another one. Anyway that is what my insurance company does.
