Rope N' Race for Gwen Logan
Posted by Nikki Logan (+283) 12 years ago
On April 29, 2010 Gwen Logan suffered a stroke and was hospitalized for a week and a half and then continued with therapy in the rehabilitation program New Hope in Billings. She then was able to come home and continue therapy. Hospital Bills and therapy bills have made it hard for this family and their daughters are putting on a Jackpot Barrel Race and Team Roping as a fundraiser.

Date & Location: June 26, 2010, Miles City Fairgrounds, Barrel Race to start at 10 am and the team roping to follow.

If you want info on entries and such please call 406-853-3468 or 406-853-0884.

There will be a free will offering lunch also.

Have you checked with the fairgrounds staff about this event? There is also an Eastern Montana Horse Show Circuit show at the Miles City Fairgrounds all day, both days June 26-27. Not sure if they are planning to use the arena or the Agri-Sports Complex, but you might want to double check that with fairgrounds officials just in case.

Good luck with your event! Don't want to sound like I'm trying to rain on your parade, but would hate to see this event planned and then have folks find out there's a conflict if both parties show up expecting to use the same facility that day.

Do you really think that we would plan something like this without talking to the fair board. Everything is taken care of. We are in the outdoor arena and the horse show is inside. A person just can't plan something like this without talking to the people there and getting INSURANCE for the facility.

Good luck with your event, especially with an attitude like that.

Gesh, Nikki if you want people to come to an event like this, maybe you should treat people a little nicer. She was just asking a simple question...

Nikki,
As a matter of fact, I have both participated in and been involved in organizing many horse shows, saddle club events, barrel races, rodeos, ropings, 4-H events, etc., as well other large-scale public events. So yes, I am aware of the insurance requirements, hard work and other necessities that it takes to put on a function like yours.

I was simply trying to help by making sure you had gone through the proper channels of organizing a location. As I previously stated, it would be a rather unpleasant experience if both your party and the horse show folks showed up that day expecting to use the same venue. And the horse show to date had not been advertised a whole lot so I wasn't sure if you were aware of it. It was just a suggestion, nothing more.

Also, I happen to be close friends with at least two members of the fair board and many people from around the area who may participate in your event. As much as I would like to tell them all about your much unappreciated, ungrateful snarky reply to my simple suggestion, I will refrain and just send you best wishes for a successful event and for your mother's speedy recovery.

I think Nikki can be forgiven for any snarkiness. I am sure she and her family are under tremendous pressure. On the other hand, I found ocne's post to be almost threatning although I am sure they didn't mean it that way

Unfortunately she should be thinking about how she is treating people, especially when she is asking them for money. Not good publicity for a charity event that benefits she and her family.

Actually, IMO, the snotty messages were from spacekace, Jody and the last one from ocne! I did think ocne's first post was intended to be helpful, but my reaction was well duh anyone putting on anything at the Fairgrounds would know to contact the fairboard.

Nicely stated, Lynne. That pretty much is what I thought as well.

I would just like to say that I am sorry if I seemed unappreciative. My family has been under a lot of stress recently and I should not have taken it out like that. I would like to invite everyone out to have a sloppy joe dinner and to browse the silent auction and to watch the riders. Again I am sorry and hope to see you all there.
