I am hoping someone out there can help me.... I am trying to find out if there is still a cemetery called Miles City Cemetery, and if so is there some were to get a listing of Names or a book that list plots, i don't know how to pursue this. I have the original Obit from my great uncle from 1936 it is about a page &1/2 long and said he is burried there. Thank You for any help. Cheryl Thompson

There is a Custer County Cemetery Index that includes information on the Cavalry Cemetery, Custer County Cemetery, Cottonwood Cemetery, Fort Keogh Cemetery, Ismay Cemetery, Knowlton Cemetery, Pine Hills School Cemetery, Private burials and information on Veteran's burials. It was published in 1991 by the Genealogical Society. Too bad you didn't give your uncle's name. The only Thompson buried here in the Custer County Cemetery in 1936 was Hans. He was an Elk and a veteran.

The index is out of print and the genealogical society is out of business. Best hope is to find someone who has a copy and buy it off them, or hunt garage sales.

That's what I would have guessed. I have at least 1/3 of the cemetery indexed in personal notes, but those notes are buried in a box somewhere.

If anyone is willing to photocopy it for me, or let me borrow it for photocopying, let me know.

What I'm really most interested in, are deaths prior to 1900, so would need an index to the "Boot Hill" cemetery as well.

Does anyone have info about death records? I know that they were sporadic in the early days. Some of them are at http://www.rootsweb.ances...th1800.htm, but are missing the county identifier.

Yes, but you can only search by name. I might try contacting the major contributor and seeing if she would share her data, though.

I wonder if Stephenson's Funeral Home has the information.

I know in the cemetery index, there are listings that are noted as "old book," and some mention bodies being moved from other cemeteries but I don't know if there are any mentioned as coming from the old cemetery under the clinic building by the old hospital, which was the first cemetery in Miles City.

I found my copy of the index. It doesn't list by date but in a vaguely alphabetical way.
