i am not against people who wish to look a way that makes them happy, but when it interferes with their ability to bathe... eew. i just read this article and thought it was totally random, and very american to want to be a reality 'star'.

What an incredibly smart thing to do. Should we start the betting pool now or wait for a couple of months?

Everyone needs a goal.

polar bear,
I am suprised with you post. Shouldn't someone in your position know that this person suffers from mental illness? Mental illness is a real and serious set of what can often be debilitating brain malfunctions. Unforuntately, people often treat those with mental illness with distain. You wouldn't do that to someone with cerebral palsey would you?

I don't see evidence of mental illness in that story.

She will probably not be much of a burden on society as she will most likely not live long. It's the healthy people that run all the time and live to be 100 and have 12 joint replacements that are expensive.

The part that bothers me... well, one of many parts.

She proclaims herself a member of Fat Acceptance, yet her actions go completely against that cause. How is striving to be as fat as possible something to help herself and other "fat" people gain acceptance in society, et al?

It give us, non-gluttonous/non-fame-whoring fat people a worse image than we're already given.

To me, Fat Acceptance is not and should not be about excess just acceptance of those that have a less than ideal body.

I could rant about other parts, but I'll choose to stop with this.

She is a sad, pathetic nobody craving attention and she got it. I bet she is happy as a fat clam.

b.hunter, after reading your post all i can think of her potential show, as being something akin to a circus sideshow.

i agree, she is not promoting fat acceptance. she'd do a better job of that by maintaining her current body type, (perhaps losing a few for ease of bathing, no one likes stinky people) show up and do motivational speaking at schools. dressed sharply, she'd show young people that you can be any body-type, be confident in yourself and you will be beautiful.

That's the way it works, Heath.

The foot is placed in the door with a "We have an obligation to help everyone!"

Then as soon as they get you to sign on the dots, they say

"Well, now that we're obligated to help you, you have to do everything our way"

After that, all roads lead through the state.
