All that is doing is encrypting the terms you're searching for when you hit the search button. Any result link you click will behave like it does now (unencrypted) and Google is still tracking what you search for to use for whatever they're stockpiling all that data for. But it is an option if you're worried about people intercepting your search terms and results. Seems a little pointless to me.

Not really. SSL is simply an encrypted socket over port 443, instead of a non-encrypted one over port 80. I don't see any point to it.

Yeah, I hate it when my browser has to go on Safari to get physiotherapy because it is insecure.
