Yes, he was flown to Seattle that night. He has a severly crushed/severed liver. He was (30 units of blood)out of surgery at one pm Saturday night, but is still open and will have two or three more surgeries today. Doctors say he is in remarkable condition for his injuries.

Mr. Dodd was injured in the high school rodeo in Sidney on Saturday. You may be able to get an update on his condition if you contacted the Sidney Health Center. Its possible they have received reports from the hospital in Seattle.

From what i was told, he's very very lucky to be alive and had he not been in the good physical condition he was already in, he probably would not be alive.

Best wishes to this young man and his family.

Dustin is my cousin, and an hour ago he went in for another surgery, but is still in critical condition. Doctor said he had to stablized before surgery could be preformed. They have all his internal bleeding stopped, and they are now attempting to put his liver back together.

How long until the push to ban rodeos, I wonder?

The push to ban rodeo has been in place for a long time. (P.E.T.A.)
However I doubt that much traction will be gained because of a few injured, or worse, cowboys. Far more cowboys are injured, or worse, in vehicle accidents going to and coming from the rodeo than are injured in rodeo.

Hoping for a complete and speedy recovery for Dustin

I doubt we'll see any ban on rodeo.
We had a fatality in high school rodeo back in '76 or '77, if I recall correctly. Can't think of his name, unfortunately.
I sure hate to see kids get hurt but it's part of the sport and many others.
It's nice to see so many people wishing this kid a speedy recovery.

How is it that someone asking about the condition of the cowboy injured and sending well wishes to him is starting to turn into a topic of how long before rodeo is banned or how to ban it? Cant it just stay as a topic on how he is doing and sending get wells to him. If the topic of banning rodeo is such a big deal then start its own seperate thread. Some will say "well we are not trying to do this and its not that important". Well it must be if the topic of banning rodeo was brought up here. Thanks for your time.

To those that have sent prayers and concern our way....This is Crystal Dodd, Dustin Dodd's sister. As of yesterday dustin has been into surgery and a full recovery is expected. His liver is still in tender condition but the bleeding has stopped and he is going too have his final surgery on wednesday. He is a very strong young man and the doctors are very impressed with how well he is doing. The Amazing support and love that our community has come together too give my brother warms my family's hearts and we are ever so thankful. This morning Dustin opened his eyes and decided it was time for him too get out of bed lol. Unfortunately that is not an option for him at this point...which only goes too show that he will be fighting too heal as fast as he can. Thankyou again for all the love and support for my brother. I will be posting more too let everyone know exactly how he is doing after his final surgery. Keep praying nothing is ever for sure.
Thankyou
Crystal Jerry and jayme

You can all send cards to...... be sure too incude all of the following while writing the address.

Patient Dustin Dodd
Harborview Medical Center 9th Ave
Seattle, WA 98106

Thanks for the support.
Dustin has finally been told that he was in Seattle. He was very awake this evening and his nurse has informed him where he is. He did get a little concerned with the news but my dad was quick too soothe his worries. Dustin is getting more and more ability too look around and answer questions by simply nodding or shakeing his head. Every little twitch or movement he makes is just another little sign that prayer is the most powerful thing there is.

Miles City 17-year-old recovering from rodeo injury

ZACH BENOIT Of The Gazette Staff | Posted: Tuesday, May 18, 2010 9:41 pm | 1 Comment

A Miles City teenager who was hospitalized over the weekend after a bull stepped on him during a rodeo could make a full recovery, a family member said Tuesday.
Mary Dodd said her grandson, 17-year-old Dustin Dodd, was thrown from a bull on Saturday at a rodeo in Sidney. He landed on his back and the bull stomped down on his midsection, causing severe damage to his liver.

Dustin was taken to the Sidney Health Center, where he underwent several surgeries.
"He had a tear in his liver and gobs and gobs of internal bleeding," Mary Dodd said. "Before he reached Seattle, they'd put about 30 pints of blood into him. That doctor in Sidney, he was a blessing."
Saturday night, Dustin was flown by jet to a Seattle hospital, where he's undergone several more surgeries, including one on Monday to remove a damaged piece of his liver. He's expected to have his final surgery today, and doctors told family members there's a good chance he'll make a full recovery.
"I just spoke to Dustin's dad, and he said they've been told he's making a miraculous recovery," Mary Dodd said. "The doctor's say he's hanging tough."

Dustin was thrown from the bull during the Richland High School Rodeo Club Rodeo in Sidney, said Mike Hollenbeck, national director of the National High School Rodeo Association. He was wearing a vest and helmet when the accident happened.

The NHRSA is helping the teen's family with money from a crisis fund it has set up for riders, Hollenbeck said. Miles City locals are working to set up a fund or fundraiser for Dustin's benefit.
The high school junior, also a Future Farmers of America member, regained consciousness Tuesday. Mary Dodd said his hospital stay could last up to 14 days while he recovers and that the support of the Miles City community has been phenomenal.

"The prayers, I'll tell ya, there's been millions," she said. "And they work."

My wife worked at Harborview medical while we were dating. It is a top notch medical facility.

I'm glad to hear he is making a full recovery.
