I am sure this will open a can of opinions...
Why? Why is this entertainment? Why would you pay to see two people fight? So there ya go have at it..

I agree with life in full color. This isn't a sport. It really shouldn't be accepted because it is so violent. Football gets pretty rough, but look at all the rules they have about protective gear. The fights I have seen they are just wearing gloves. (and some shorts I believe Why do we encourage AND pay for guys to beat the crap out of each other?

I really just don't understand, but if that's your thing, so be it.

*Sanctioned* MMA is a safer sport then both professional football and basketball.

I'd rather watch Carl and his Ford beat the crap out of Brad and his Chevy.

If any of you tried it you would realize its one of the harder sports to go through with all the training. It is a sport, its about being physically and mentally smarter than your opponent.

And the difference between this and boxing, or any sort of marshall arts would be? These athletes train and condition themselves to become defensive machines. They learn hand eye coordination, sacrifice , and self dicipline. What is the point in golf. Watch guys beat the hell out of a defensless little white ball. I just don't see the point. Get mine?

Urijah and Steve are right. MMA is more than just a glorified "human cock fight". There is a lot of strategy and discipline involved. It's not all punching... there are submissions and other martial arts moves that require a lot of athleticism, training, and talent. Often the guy who go into these amateur fights thinking they're going to just beat up on some guy end up getting their butts handed to them by some guy they thought would be "easy pickings". Don't just MMA because you've seen a preview or five minutes of a match on TV. And certainly don't judge it based on boxing or the theatre-sport of professional wrestling.
