I'm trying to stay calm when I post this but needless to say I'm pissed. My Boyfriend and I were at the Trails Last night for a few hours and we left are car parked in the back, going out occasionally for a smoke break, in that few hours we were in there our car had been gone threw. Not knowing that anything was took until early this morning. I left my pink digital camera in our car and when I went to go use it this morning it was gone, I instantly thought I left it somewhere but when I started looking threw our car to see if it had fallen I noticed our spare cell phone we use for emergency's was gone out of our glove box and a new DVD we just got. We instantly called the cops and reported our things stolen. I just want to say if your that low that you have to get in other people's cars and steal there things, better hope your ready to go to jail. I'm sick of teenage kids and even scum adults in this town thinking they can do this. I don't know who it was but they are going to get caught. I wish there were more cameras when you need them.

Just a thought, but if you leave your car unlocked... You are asking for it.

I don't have any concern. I keep nothing in my car that can be stolen, besides my XM. And even with just that, I always lock my doors. Even out at my home 5 miles out. That is why the Door Lock was invented, to be used.

I had stuff stolen from me many years ago, when my father chose to not lock the door when at the Airport Inn for dinner. CD Player, bunch of CDS. Yeah, I was mad. Until dad told me he didnt lock the doors. Then it was a matter of stupidity. You basically lay the red carpet out for a thief when you do not lock/secure your vehicle and home.

That's awful kelsee. I've heard of a lot of other thefts around town too. I'm from a more urban area originally and have only been here 6 months but I retained my 'lock it' ideology... and from your experiences and others, I'm glad I did.

Officer Loomis is a doll and tried the best he could. All we can do is keep checking pawn shops and keep looking MC is small I'm sure something will come up. And you know what Josh I honestly Could care less what you think or say. I don't think you know anything and HELLO people get into your car even if its locked. So why don't you go and tend to something else like getting a life.

I agree with Josh. The idea of going anywhere, especially a bar and leaving your door unlocked is an absurd idea. I hope that you will learn from this experience, and be happy your car wasn't stolen as well.

Josh I somehow agree with you too. I've been a victim of theft from my car TWICE. Once in high school while @ work @ taco johns. The other time i went into my grandfathers house for literally 5 minutes & some punk azz mofo stole my bag outta my car. They found that kid somehow & it took everything I had not to slap him in front of Reddick down @ the E.O.C. My lesson learned. Lock your doors. Just cuz we're some small hick town in the middle of nowhere doesn't mean we don't have a large population of idiots.

I lived in Miles City in the 1960s-1970 and we had to begin to lock our vehicles and houses in the mid-1960s because of escapes from the Pine Hills institution. I now have two homes -- one about 45 miles from Houston, TX., the other about 120 miles away -- and I lock the houses, outbuildings, and all vehicles whether I am here/there or not. Nothing of value is ever visible. Well, my math books are visible, but I don't think anyone besides me and a few other nerds would want. Your situation is a sad commentary on current mores. Good luck in recovering your merchandise.

I'm an area leader for our local Neighborhood Watch and there are very specific things that you should and should not do to discourage car thieves. This is straight from the police; they should know.

Never leave anything of value in your car. If the thief can't see it he'll look elsewhere.

Always lock your car. A thief will walk down a row of cars and check door handle. He'd much rather pop into an open car than break into a locked one.

Park under a street lamp if possible. Thieves prefer to work in the dark.

I don't blame you for being angry, kelsee. It's a real violation. Fortunately there are things you can do to prevent it from happening again.

Back to the issue of the thieves. Locked doors only keep honest people honest. Ask a guy that has bought several windows, even when nothing was stolen. They gotta get in to find out there is nothing steal. Sorry Josh, it just hasn't happened to you yet. Hopefully it won't. But I certainly understand the aggravation of being ripped off. I hope they find the scum, but that is probably just wishful thinking.

I've had stuff stolen from me, and it sucks. My friend's roommate stole 325 dollars from her room and tried to blame a "criminal." Nothing was broken and the money was in a drawer next to a phone, a digital camera, and a nice pair of earrings. The only thing missing was the money. Now seriously, do you believe a theif would just take the money or do you think they'd also take other small valuables?

It's like when my husband's brother stole from us. I had 20 dollars on top of my TV in a little crumpled pile of 5's. He took ten and said we must have had a break-in. Come on?!

About the thieves in this town, it's rediculous. Monday night i had a run in with a would be thief and when i went to get something to help me feel safer, the guy at the pawn shop, who was extremely nice, told me of another break in across town. I don't know what goes through there mind but i doubt it's anything good or respectfull to anyone. not to mention my husband had a faceplate to a cd player stolen one night, and over 250 cd's stolen shortly after that. it's rediculous. not to mention you can't use the faceplate without the deck it came with. My idea, cameras on every corner. would really help with more then just thieves.

This dude, who I watched on live TV, left one car (I think the 2nd stolen one), broke into another (leaving the original idling out on the street) and started it literally within about 30 seconds -- that includes the amount of time to break in the blue Subaru and start it using only a single screwdriver.

He went on quite the chase, which was being televised and the KIRO TV helicopter guy actually helped police track him down.

Now I don't know if any of that makes my point, but lock your damn car doors. And if you have an alarm, turn it on. If you don't, then don't leave anything valuable in the car.

kelsee- sorry your stuff got stolen. lucky for you all they took was just stuff, replaceable. however, the creep-out factor knowing a stranger was in your personal space will linger. one of my former roommates 'friends' broke into our house and stole lots of his stuff (they had had a disagreement of sorts,) and the jerk went through all of the others rooms too. my underwear drawer had been tossed! that is what creeped me out the most, knowing that this prick had touched all my unders... eew! we know who did it, as our neighbors watched, but didn't call the cops, as they didn't realize exactly why someone would be entering through a window. (not the smartest folks.)

250 cd's left in a car? All of my cd's come in the house with me every night. And my truck is parked exactly 14 ft from my head when I am in bed. I can hear a cat walk by, even in a deep sleep, and my valuables still come inside. But if those cd's were not in the vehicle, you would still own them. Not a criticism, but if you don't give them anything to steal, then they have nothing to steal. Locking the doors will make them take more time to steal your stuff. Time for someone to notice. Maybe. Or maybe that thief will look for an easier target. Maybe. But if you are gonna leave 250 cd's in an unlocked vehicle, just send the cd's to me. Cause you won't own them for long. Not even in sleepy ol Miles City. There are crooks every where, and they will find something to steal. All we can do is try to make it tougher on them. And kick them in the groin region when they get caught. My little brother caught some kids breaking into his car about 2 years ago, in Miles City, and he was still beating on the kid he caught when the police showed up. The cops laughed a little, asked my brother to please not do that again, and took the little thief away. I doubt the little thief will ever do that again, because he got pounded for his troubles.

I said it once, I will say it again. After buying 4 windows, yes 4, I never lock my car anymore. I don't leave anything worth stealing in it either. I would rather be out my stuff than out my stuff and my window too. My car got broken into in Billings just feet from the apartment I was in and guess what, no one heard a thing and no one saw a thing. Locking you car may seem like the logical solution to you some of you, but you are not thieves. I had 2 windows broken at $175 a piece, my car was gone through both times and nothing stolen. Kinda contradicts the lock it or loose it notion doesn't it. By the way I have had nothing stolen since I quit locking my car and it has been gone through once. Guess I saved $175.

Always blew me away to think that some asshole is willing to break my truck window and do $300-400 worth of damage to steal a $100 CD player.

I took a Criminology class at UM once and one thing we looked at was the FBI's report on Crime in the country...and lo and behold....Custer County's crime rate was higher then NYC's (per capita). There are a nmber of dirtbird's in MC who are stealing alot of poop.

If you were to honestly look at your self you have done the same so are you a thief as well??

Let me throw a final word in. If your car had been locked, I would have been very sympathetic toward your losses due to the fact you attempted to keep them from being stolen, and did not succeed. But since you did not take the easiest precaution to stopping thieves, I will not provide you with my sympathy.

Here's my final word on this as well.... The point I truly believe Kelsea is trying to make here is that our laws are not strict enough to deter people from stealing. They know its just a slap on the wrist and what she is also stating is that it is unfair that we should have to walk on eggshells and ALWAYS remember to lock our doors and take our valuables inside. Thats just not realistic. Im a fire fighter and when I get home after fighting a wildland fire for 18 HOURS the last thing I want to do when I get home is drag EVERYTHING out of my car and try to remember to lock it. I can barely walk after that 18 hours. Might I add Im a VOLUNTEER Wildland Fire Fighter... So when I get home literally EXHAUSTED and my brain's not functioning right then I would get no empathy for being robbed because I was too EXHAUSTED to drag all my stuff inside and just happened to forget to lock my doors. Would you all start putting me down knowing I was exhausted for DONATING my OWN valuable time to help somebody else? My major point is there's exceptions to everything and Im with the people that think something needs to change on the criminal side of this... We need harsher laws and more observations. In 1985, my LOCKED car was broken into during the day across the street from the high school. I had a half dozen of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies visible on the seat (that had acceidentally fallen to the ground and were dusty) and the thief(s) broke the window to get to the cookies. I had a small wallet w/ $20 and my license hidden under the seat and they found that and took that too. Definitely lock your car, but even better, leave nothing of value in your car or it might be taken. Sad but true. Teach your children to be honest and if you see suspicious activity, report it to the police.

I know I spell sense incorrectly, when it should be since and vice-versa. There are a few select words I am still having trouble with. One I just recently got past was Obvious. Took forever to figure that out and remember it.

Its a good thing most bosses don't watch the clock and dock workers for screwing off, surfing the net at work. Theft is theft. Depriving someone of property or services. I realize it is extreme. but still a thief. As far as VOLUNTEER, EXHAUSTING, DONATING. Not to take away from it but why draw ATTENTION to yourself. Are you that insecure. I'm not saying it is ok to lie. I can handle if you tell me I look like crap for a better word. It is what it is. If someone asks "how they look ?" They are really looking for a compliment IMO. So the person asking is really looking for a boost in their ego or self confidence. Again IMO. So yes to answer your question. We had a crime wave on the MSU campus a few years ago. It ended when they caught the one guy who was doing it. A single enterprising thief can make a whole town seem dishonest.

i cannot beleive that everyone has turned this around to actually saying that it is your own fault for being robbed! A few years ago some punk kids walked through my back gated yard, into my garage, broke my LOCKED car window, and stole some CD's, a coat, and some cologne. COME ON!! They were caught b/c some other kids saw our name wrote on the CDs and called us up to tell us. I agree that replacing windows is very expensive, and the fact that we are being criticized for leaving valuables in the car is absurd. I am very sorry Kelsey, I know that it is very frusterating to be robbed and I agree that these thieves need stronger punishment.
