I think Miles City should get a place where teenagers could hang out just to get away from everything!!! A place that would have like a dance every friday and saturday night for those who like to dance!!! A social place where friends could talk and not cause any trouble!!!!

It was called the Harmony Hangout. Today, it is the Drop-In Center. More recently, there was an attempt at what is now Park Place but that crashed and burned before it really got started. The problem is always the same. Money and supervision. You need to be able to pay for it and you need adults willing to chaperone. I think Fun2U is going for some kind of rec center. Maybe once it gets off the ground, that would be the place to appeal to.

I also think Fun2U plans include community spaces. If you real what space and time for teens, I would suggest getting involved with them now, in the planning stage and helping them raise funds to keep the project moving forward.

In my day it was called a "kegger". A curious, long-deceased social event of the 1970s.

Only problem with Fun2U is that they are way out of the way for many people.

Gunner,

When was it killed? It was around when I attended CCDHS in the 90's.

Yes everybody please get your kids a swimming pool/workout center. I just can't believe you haven't done this yet. You don't know what you're missing out on.

This effort has come up over and over again. Each time a few dedicated people work really hard to put it together, then it falls apart because more people don't help and not enough kids take advantage of it. It worked well in the 1940s and 50s when kids weren't so mobile and had to walk someplace and stay there. Since the 1970s kids always have access to cars (or their friends do) and they don't stay in one spot very long. Also when kids have the choice of staying in one spot and being chaperoned or take off and not be chaperoned, they usually chose the later. (They didn't used to have a choice.) They aren't necessarily planning to do anything bad, but they want time away from teachers, parents, and other adults. Then there are those who don't realize they can have fun without alcohol or other drugs. It would be great to have a safe, fun place for kids, but it just doesn't seem to work. Fun2U is coming the closest. People need to remember there are a million things to do around here, unless you just want to be entertained. You have to look around and get involved and not just sit back and whine. Sports, arts, music, theater, 4-H, church activities, volunteer work, projects through numerous clubs and organizations are happening all the time. (Clubs and organizations are desperate for members to help with projects). Look at page 2 of the newspaper any day of the week. Look at other people (kids or adults) who never seem to have a spare moment. Join in!

I am blessed to have been in that generation who had Harmony Hangout in the 1960s. Miles City did a good job keeping kids occupied then with dances at the Eagles Hall and at the Hangout. We still managed to get in trouble, but maybe not to the extent some are tempted today. I could, but won't, tell some stories our parents (now in their 80s) would not want to hear. Kids will be kids. We need to help them grow up. Temptations for them may be bigger than we faced in the 60s.
