A Second Chance

It was to be an ordinary vacation until he called and asked if I would join him at his ocean cottage for a chamber concert.

I'd be delighted to," I answered. "And would you lunch with me on the Vineyard before that?"

Two evenings after a magical meal at a Vineyard Haven waterfront restaurant, I arrived on his island where we stood on the wrap-around deck under a full moon watching the white sailed yachts anchored on the horizon under star lights shimmering on the water, listening to the surf pound against the rocks and he asked. "May I?"

After a second weekend together I feel like Nellie Forbush in South Pacific:

"I'm as corny as Kansas in August,
High as a flag on the Fourth of July!
If you'll excuse an expression I use.
I'm in love, I'm in love,
I'm in love with a wonderful guy!"

I never dreamed life could be so good.

So, do we start singing "I'm getting married in the morning?!?"

Oh Johnnie! That is beautiful. I am so very excited. Are you back in Miles? I want to do coffee still.

Amorette,

There are certain economic considerations that can not be ignored when you're old, old, old and living on an annuity. Since we live in different parts of the country, perhaps 'companionship' and a perpetual 'engagement' would be more appropriate.

I am in Miles City for less than 48 hours, Scott. I'm off to Billings for a medical appointment and then to Los Angeles for a party. Look forward to seeing you before I take off for points east in November.
