I was at Sears this afternoon and in the menswear department I noticed they were selling Hanes socks in packages of six. The socks were packaged in plastic bags that proudly advertised "Resealable Bag" and sure enough the bag had a "ziploc" closure.

Now why would you need your bag of socks to have a ziploc closure? Some might say, "So you can open the bag in the store, inspect the size/feel of the socks, replace the socks, seal up the bag, and put the bag back on the rack." But the bag was sealed at the top, so to do that you would have to rip open the bag anyway.

Maybe so that you could use the bag for some other purpose before throwing it in the landfill?

So you can keep some new ones in the bag for a later date without mixing them into your old socks.

So you have a place to keep your tinfoil hats?

You don't go camping or hiking very much, do you, David?

Having dry socks is a good thing.

Actually the bags have holes punched in them at the factory to let air escape, so a well-sealed bag it is not.

One word. Marketing. Weird things get promoted as "benefits" to convince people to buy.

Who the hell can afford six pairs of socks all at once? Brian really had to stretch for the sealed package theory, a little insight into his thinking.
