Don't miss the Star's Relay for Life fund-raiser tonight at the Eagles!

Locals Mel Peterson and Morris Bartholomew will go head to head at the Miles City Star Relay for Life fund raiser on Nov. 20, and the public is invited to join in the fun.
Peterson, of A & A Electric, and Bartholomew, of Bartholomew Trucking, will be the donors for a live hair auction to see whose luscious locks can bring in more money for Relay for Life. They will be assisted by stylists Jillian Gentry (The Cottage Salon) and Sara Bice (The Rage) and auctioneer Barry Ellis.
The hair itself will be donated to Locks for Love, which provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the U.S. and Canada suffering from long-term medical hair loss.
Rosa Neese, an advertising representative for the Miles City Star, has spearheaded planning for the fund raiser. Neese was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer in Dececember, 2008. She underwent chemotherapy for six months. Since her diagnosis, she has become active with Relay for Life, an annual fund-raising event benefitting the American Cancer Society.
The hair auction is only part of the fun Nov. 20. Beginning at 6 p.m., attendees will enjoy dinner catered by the Redneck Grill for just $5 per person at the Eagles Club downtown. Following the meal, the crowd will move to the main floor to enjoy dancing to the music of White Line Fever, featuring the Star's own Alan Hauge. Attendees will also have the opportunity to bid on a variety of silent and live auction items.
Some of the items to be auctioned include a special "Night out" gift basket including dinner for two, chocolates and a motel; a Mexican dinner for six prepared by Lourdes Reynolds; a soft pastel painting entitled "A Peek Inside," by area artist Deb Brown, a "Man" basket donated by Miles City Motor Supply/NAPA and much more.

You can't beat dinner and entertainment for $5, and the silent auction items are the best I've ever seen at one of these events. Come enjoy a good time in Miles City and support a good cause. Don't miss the Star Relay for Life fund-raiser tonight, starting at 6 p.m.!

Morris really enjoyed being able to take part in the hair cutting to raise money for Relay for life. His hair was long enough to donate to Locks of Love which was his orginal goal. He thanks everyone that donated to his can at the bars and those that bid on his hair. It was an emotional experiance that he hadn't anticipated on, but one he will do again in another two years when his hair is once again long enough.

Are there any plans for doing this again? I know someone who has already donated 56" of hair to locks of love and is about ready to do it again. And if it might raise money for a good cause, so much the better!
