Swearing on MilesCity.com
Posted by Kacey (+3153) 12 years ago
Mr. Webmaster,
I thought you were not allowing swearing on here. Yet Mr. Reed just finished his last rant against me with four capital letters which are inappropriate for this forum.

Is it ok to swear if you abbreviate it?

I personally think people who need to swear have anger issues.

people who have a need to cuss have anger issues? Please.
Some people just inherently cuss--maybe because of where they work---like for instance, oilfielders. Loosely, most of them have a tendency to cuss---throughout my whole childhood, my dad did--he worked in the oilfield and it seemed every other word out of his mouth was the f word. Then when he quit, the cussing went way down. Now he's back in the area, and it's coming back again. My dad in no way has anger issues. I, growing up around my dad, unfortunately have some of his word tendencies (though I've been doing very well at correcting them), and I don't have anger issues. Therefore, I think your statement was off. Besides, you're an adult, right? Brush it off and walk on. Life goes on--it doesn't quit just because someone may have offended you.

Dan, your dad actually turned the car around? Mine just pulled to the side of the road and gave me the beating I had coming....

(not really, we were probably parked in a repair shop somewhere. That's how we spent all of our vacations! LOL All he had to do was reach over and smack me.)

Kacey, have you EVER seen me drop an F-bomb in here? Maybe you have and I've just forgotten about it. I've had a few posts over the years and I can't remember them all.

Here's the thing: you made the assumption that "STFU" could ONLY mean "Shut The F**k Off." Have you ever stopped to consider - just for a moment - that what I was saying was Shut The Frak Off? Because I HAVE used "Frak" on milescity.com on more than one occasion. I've also used the term "effing."

Either way, big effing whoop. If you don't want to be told to STFU, then do yourself a favor and and stop telling me how to raise my children. You will get a STFU every single time.

Anyone ever seen the movie Public Access? Seems oddly relevant to this entire website. As for bothering the webmaster I vote never to bother him unless it is concerning a technical issue that he is actually NEEDED for. Remember this entire site is a privelage not a right.

As for swearing a quote comes to mind: "profanity is an idle mind expressing itself". My gears reel often and then intellectual discourse is usually replaced by four letter words which doesn't make me a simpleton or full of anger, just frustrated. Now yelling at someone is another story.

I fail to see how a gainfully employed young man who spends his free time participating in community oriented projects (like the webcam) who is nearing the age when he can vote, serve his country, run for office, own real property, etc. can be deemed a child. That seems awefully condescending to me. When I was 17 I had already been on my own for 3 years and being told I was a child was no more than a form of negative reinforcement I was lucky enough to ignore.

What some of you do not understand is that other people, outside the normal circle, also peruse MilesCity.com. Possibly perspective professionals who have an interest in moving to our town. Is it appropriate to show the consistent bickering and name calling that is all too common? I have pleaded several times before, please clean it up, stay on topic and lets have some good debate. Is that asking too much? My teen age children have more respect that what I see here. Please if you can't at least fake being mature, don't bother.

Gosh, how nice of everyone. At this point in my life I am finding out certain businessmen around town believe they are better than me because I do not have a piece of paper (Diploma) and I am under 18. In my defense, look at some of the most famous inventors, or some of the most successful businessmen out there. They have been worse off that me, and made it farther than Ms. Donna has in her life.

Steve Z, you're right! I allowed myself to get fired up and off topic and called someone condescending, which is just as immature as calling Josh a child. The subject is swearing and I've spoken my piece. We need more people to call BS on the habit of getting off topic. I admit my complicity. Anyone else on swearing?

Steve Z, you make an excellent point. Those of us who have not been to Miles City in many years are really getting a picture of the community and the people and how it has changed. Certainly not a friendly, pleasant or intellectual group as representatives here. I should think cleaning it up would benefit the town. I am thinking that I probably don't want to return for my class reunion.
Top
Posted by Josh Rath (+2311) 12 years ago
Here's My Take on things.

MC.com is a wonderful place. Why? You get into silly arguments you would never think of doing (Unless you are donna) in real life.
Also, if you are man/woman enough to use your real name as your handle, as many of us do (and donna had), I am sure you have been recognized in town by some anonymous reader of this site if you ever had an argument, and have been told how idiotic you were.
I know I have, and my simple answer to these people is... "As I see it, the forums are not real life, so whatever said there stays there. Or, a much easier way to put it... 'What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas'".

Makes since? Yes.

If any of you were to call me out in town at the store or whathaveyou, I would tell you that also, and be on my way.

So, for any of you small minded individuals on this forum who take it seriously, get real.

Very true. I wanted - and still want - Kacey to STFU when I told her to STFU on the other thread. I was just illustrating the fact that I've never actually cursed on here. I have said "frak," though. I have also said "STFU" at least (counting ...) 3 whole times.

I've never been harmed by an acronym. Speaking of which, here's my favorite acronym:

I do love me some sammiches. And I do mean love.

Back on topic ...

Donna wrote:

Is that supposed to make people feel bad or happy? I'm confused. You know, if you do decide to come back, you and Kacey can finally decide once and for all who has the thinner skin.

Josh Rath wrote:

Far be it for me to defend Donna, but a lot of people without diplomas are also currently sleeping in dumpsters. Many people drive without their seatbelts and do just fine ... until they don't.

Kacey wrote:

To know my "true" personality, you would have to know me. You don't. Bridgier does. MT Zook does. J. Dyba does. Rick Kuchynka does. Even Steve and Howdy - who I've never met in person - do. Lots of people do. You don't.

To my memory, I have written you twice. The most recent of which was in an attempt to avoid the slagfest that this - and the Creepy Creepy Christian thread - have become. They didn't go to your junk mail because of what I said. They went to your junk mail because your email program didn't recognize my email address.

Pity my children all you want, Kacey. They could care less what you think. Maybe someday, when they stub their toes on a table leg or something, you can show how much you care by starting a thread about it and leading the misery fest over their poor, poor toes. How's that sound?

But until that time, STFU. (try not to run to Larry again because a big bad acronym shocked your oh-so-fragile sensibilities, okay?)

The snobbishness and condescension of the intellectual elite is just as profane as the "swearing" of what you are considering "lower class".

Donna, that is one of the least intelligent things ever uttered on milescity.com. Congratulations, this is for you:

You have a witness (!?) Sweet mother of butter, that is idiotic! How's about - I don't know - a LINK to support your claim? A simple Google search would surely turn up something to back up what you said.

Richard, Donna is most certainly NOT one of the "intellectual elite."

Words are words. I can almost guarantee you that your moralizing and nearly-transparent skin offend me as much as BIG BAD WORDS offend you, Donna.

(Fast-forward to the 1:46 mark or so).

And Donna, you are more than welcome to go crying to the Webmaster or the Internet Police to report me for calling you a dolt. It's worth it.

But on the plus side, now when you hear someone tell you that they "read someplace" that you're a dolt, you'll have documentation.
