Photography in Miles City/new in town
Posted by Whitney (+6) 13 years ago
My fiance and I just purchased a house in Miles City, and I just wanted to get word out that I am a photographer with a degree in photography from Montana State. I am just starting to get photo jobs in Miles City and wanted to throw my name out there to anyone interested in wedding/engagement photography, and senior, family, baby, etc. portraits. I am very excited to be moving to Miles City, and hope that I may be of service to the town. My website is whitneylinphotography.com Take care.

Do you have a Bachelor of Arts with a photography option? They haven't ever offered a degree simply in photography that I know of. Although I wish they did!

That is exactly what it is. My degree is actually in Media and Theater Arts with a Photography option. However, I only was required to take one art class and one film class besides my photography classes. MSU is one of few schools who offer a four year photography program. I really enjoyed the program, and you get a well rounded education while getting your degree in photo.

Do you do photos with motorcycles( I have my own but would like photos of me with bike)? What are your rates for a shoot?

I attempted photography with a motorcycle once but burned my eye on the exhaust.

I would love to get a portrait done of my boys. How much would one cost?

Steve has a four year degree in photography from MSU. It wasn't theater and media arts way back then, just film and television with a photography option for him and a television option for me. MSU (the REAL MSU, not Eastern Montana College in Billings) has been a leader in degrees for film (still and motion) and television for 40 years.

So, yes a four year bachelor of science in photography is a real degree.

With all due respect, that's a bit nitpicky, isn't it Amorette?

Personally, I think a Bachelor of Arts Degree is probably better than a Bachelor of Science Degree ... simply due to the fact that the arts one (if I remember correctly) encompasses more areas, while the science one is more specialized and typically is really only particularly useful towards certain career paths.

But I don't know ... I never finished mine (the arts one in computer science.)

Welcome to MC Whitney, your site looks great. It looks like you could have a good thing going. Feel free to share some of your "off the clock" work on our flickr group.

I have a BS, just because I thought it was appropriate for me.

Since MSU-B isn't a REAL university, I wonder why I paid them so much REAL money.

As I get older, I find that one learns just as much from the School of Hard Knocks as one would from a formal edumacation.

I could be wrong, though...

Mrae-My maiden name is Buttelman. We are getting married in June. How did you know that? Also if you need any pricing info, please email me at [email protected]. I haven't done a lot with motorcycles (Once in school) but would definitely be willing to tackle that. I am so excited about all the responses I have gotten already, and have to say that I am hooked on this site. After all the degree talk though I had to go look up my transcript to find out what the actual title was-degree in Media and Theater Art with a concentration in photography. Kinda wordy, but that's what it is. Thank you for your kind words, and it just makes me that much more excited to get moved

Amorette,

Why so defensive about my questions about the degree? I was curious because I had looked into a photography degree and UofM was the only place I could find when I looked a few years ago.

NO ONE has said a bachelor of science in photography wasn't a real degree.

MSU Bozeman's site says they now offer a Bachelor of Arts degree in Photography! They've changed it from Department of Media and Theatre Arts to School of Film and Photography.
