Missing Puppy!!! REWARD!!!!!!!!
Posted by Brandi Baker (+51) 14 years ago
On Aug 18th my dog Shy was attacked at the Town Pump truck stop in Miles City by a Pit Bull that wasn't on his leash and Shy slipped out of her collar and leash trying to get away from him. We called animal control and posted fliers around town and searched for her but could never find her. She is a 2 year old half Pug and half Rat Terrier Mix. She is caramel color and weighed about 20 lbs. She means everything to me and being a truck driver she made this life so much easier living out on the road. She means the world to me and I am offering a $500 reward for her return. She is up to date on all her shots and is very shy as her name implies. She is very kind and loving and if anyone knows of anyone that may have picked her up or has seen her please call me. My name is Brandi and my cell is 715-279-1487. Otherwise you can also call Brian at animal control as he knows about it. I appreciate what the good people of your city have done to try to bring her home to me.

This person has created an account for the sole purpose of messing with people. In case you didnt notice the thread about me this morning. Hopefully this person DID find her puppy but I doubt it. This person needs to be held accountable for their actions, however I have no way of finding out who it is. (I have narrowed it down though). Anyone that knows how we can find out please let me know. Gotta be some smarties out there that can figure it out.

trey's mean joke aside, I do hope Brandi is eventually reunited with her dog - having had several myself, I know what such a companion can mean to anyone.

...obvously, Shy means more to Brandi than the jack-ass who allowed their pit bull to carelessly run free to attack Shy in the first place.

I saw a dog that looks a LOT like this one yesterday. It was on the interstate by the 4B's off ramp. I drove back through there a few times (after I took my dog home) and my neighbor also combed through the area. We didn't see it again - just wanted to let people know so that everyone can be watching in that area. Certainly hope Shy finds her way home!

I got a call today from main street vet clinic and they said that they have had reports of a dog matching Shy being seen around the 4B's and town pump. I pray this is her. They said she would not come to them and after what she has been through I wouldn't blame her, she is shy just as the name implies. She is friendly though. Someone was going to try putting out a live trap to see about getting her that way. I appreciate that so much. I hate that I cannot be there as I am in Indiana right now but believe me if and when that little puppy is found I will be there like lightning. I pray she will come back to us.

I volunteer for East Main. They talked to me today so a kid and I went out and spent an hour calling for the dog.
2 things you might want to send up is either a CD or tape with your voice call her on it and saying lets go. The other is a piece of clothing with your scent on it that we can use in the trap

This is just an out there idea, but if she is being seen in the same area perhaps she`s found a culvert or hole or something, close by there, and what if a bowl of dog food was left near there , might she start comimg to it. Of course if there`s lots of dogs running around it would not probly work. Maybe someone thats going out looking there , might know if it is worth a try. She must be hungry ! Good luck

Brandi, when I got off work tonight, I drove behind the motel and 4-B's to look for your Shy. There were several women there already looking. These wonderful girls are from East Main Clinic who are determined to find your baby; I was touched by their devotion.

I am off work tomorrow and plan on looking again too. Since Shy won't come to anyone, do you have any idea of how we can catch her (other than a trap as I don't have one). Are there any particular names you used with her when talking to her? Anything you can think of could be helpful. With the recent sightings and cold weather coming, there is an urgency that everyone wants to move quickly. Hang in there! We so hope you will get that phone call soon telling you to come get your baby. Vickie

A dog that size could crawl in a pretty small space, I am sure someone has probly looked, but sometimes those small storage buildings are built on skids, and there may be a crawl space underneath them. Also interstate over passes, may have small drainage pipes going down to the barrow pit. Sounds like she is there somewhere! She may be in the original place she ran to hide, at the very beginning.

If someone does spot her, get low. Sitting or kneeling is a much less threatening posture than standing. I also agree with the canned cat food. It's more appealing than canned dog for some reason. Wish I could be of more help.

She is so timid. She always has been. She wouldn't hurt a fly but at the same time after what she has been through I don't blame her for being even more scared. I called her Shy Shy and everytime I would take her for a walk I would say "Let's go potty". Also when it was time to go I would say "Let's go for a ride". I would just pull my car keys out of my purse and she would start dancing even before I could say anything. She definitely knows what that means as she would always get so excited. I feel so terrible that I don't have the means to be there right now. I am trying to keep it together and keep my job at the same time. It has been unbearable losing her the way I did. I can't tell you all what it means each time I read that someone has been out looking for her.

Brandi, I will donate, as I hope others will, to help with expenses if you could come while Shy is in the area. Vickie

It's VERY touching and inspirational to me that the good folks who have been out looking for the dog have been doing so...it also makes quite a statement that Brandi is so connected to Shy that she's willing to drive from several states away in order to come find her. I certainly do wish her the best with finding her and being reunited with her.

HOWEVER - I do hope that those who claim to have spotted her didn't mistake another dog for Shy and that, based on that claim, Brandi isn't making that far of a trip for nothing. It would be a real shame if that turned-out to be the case, is all.

So, again, to Brandi - I'll be pulling for you. I sincerely hope Shy IS the dog that was spotted, and that you find her, indeed...and Gene/Vickie, please keep us posted on this thread after Brandi arrives and starts her search.

One other thing: I'll look into it tonight but, if I can afford to, I will make a small donation to help cover Brandi's travel expenses.

I spoke with the girls at East Main again today and they feel it is Shy or they would not be going out twice daily looking for her. Brandi knows there is a chance she could go home without her, but she is willing to take that chance.

I just spoke to Brandi. To spend more time looking, she was able to get a flight into Billings and I am picking her up tomorrow night. I will keep everyone posted.

The one thing I am having a HARD time finding is a bull horn. Seems no one uses them anymore! Does anyone know of one we could borrow? Thanks! Vickie

When Brandi gets here let everyone know and we could possibly form a search party and maybe a lot of people would show up to help look for Shy, if you let us know what time and where, and some of us could walk in the median on the interstate while some people walked in the grass on the shoulders of both sides of the interstate from the Broadus exit to the Baker exit. I will also try to donate money to help Brandi with expenses. Check with the police department and see if they have a bullhorn you could borrow.

Vicki is right. It is best if Brandi goes alone. The other people will scare Shy.
Vicki make sure she brings some old clothes that she wore.
Hopefully we can trap Shy before she gets here. There are so many places for the dog to hide there. Lots of large rocks and other things to hide under.
I can't donate right now but I will help in any other way.
When is she coming? We are going to Billings next Thurs and Friday to pick up kids from the airport. We are getting them Thurs and coming back Friday. Brandi could ride back with us.

I feel for Brandi and Shy after going to New Orleans and handling the traumatized dogs there. It usually took a couple of hours of intense work after we caught or trapped any of the animals. You could tell in their eyes when they changed and decided that they were safe again.
Don't give up hope Brandi.

Ps Vicki wait on the bull horn until after Brandi tries for awhile. The distortion of Brandi's voice through it may scare Shy more.

After Brandi looks alone, if Shy is not found, then can we do the search party and have people walk in the median and in the grass on both sides of the interstate from the Broadus exit to the Baker exit. I don't think we should give up looking for Shy, if Brandi doesn't find her. You could let people know a time and place to meet for the search party. Just a thought.

Tomorrow is her only day as she has to leave Monday. I am going to do some voice recordings while she is here - in the event she is not able to locate her and returns home. I can only pray Shy will reconize her mama. We are not using the bull horn yet - good idea! We are using four wheelers to get back in places, park and walk.

Please keep praying. If you met Brandi, your heart would be sad in listening to her describe her anguish over losing Shy. She is so GRATEFUL to the people of Miles City.

Just came home (10:35) to check if there were any new sightings. Brandi just started using the bullhorn. It's a nice one, generously donated for such a good cause. (Thanks D.)

It's a helpless feeling knowing Brandi only has today to look. She did bring Shy's favorite toy - in the event someone finds her after she has left - so she would have that until her mommy can get back to get her.

Shy was injured by the pit bull that attacked her. Brandi thinks she may have hid somewhere to heal and that is why they initially were not able to find her. Vickie

My husband is leaving at four in the morning to take Brandi to the Billings airport. Plan A was for Brandi to rent a car and take Shy back. Plan B had to be used. She is not sorry she came; she remains hopeful. Wish it had been under different circumstances but it's been a delight being with Brandi. She's the type of person that you feel you've always known.

In the future, if anyone sees Shy, would it be possible to take a photo? With so many cell phones having cameras, Brandi thought that would be helpful.

Brandi continues to be in awe of Miles City people. That's nice to hear. Vickie

Okay, not to be mean or anything, but wouldn't it have made more sense for Brandi to make the trip at a time when she could have spent more than just one day looking? Seems kind-of wasteful to spend the money and travel all that far just for one day...of course, I wouldn't be saying that if she had found Shy, but still.

Anyway, I am still pulling for her - guess we'll have to hope that the voice recordings and other people searching for the dog come through. In the mean-time, I did send-in a donation over the weekend so it should arrive at East Main Clinic in the next couple of days...will it be forwarded to Brandi?

Best of luck and wishes.

I would have given anything to have been able to stay longer to look for my Shy but with my new job I had no personal time or vacation so I traveled Saturday and then back on Monday which meant I only had Sunday to look. I spent what I had to get out there and back and would do it again in a heartbeat if it meant I had a chance to see her and have her back again. I am so greatful to everyone that has tried to bring us back together. I cannot and wouldn't know where to begin to repay all of your kindness. I recorded my voice while I was there and also left her favorite toy and one of my t shirts just in case it could be of any use. It was devastating to have to leave again but I had to take a chance no matter how small the window was.

When I saw this at the top of the list again I was hoping that it would be good news that Shy had finally been reunited with Brandi. It's a shame that isn't the case, but it's heartening to see so many good people helping out a stranger and a hapless little dog.

As a pet owner and life-long dog lover, I'd just like to say to all of you who have been searching for Shy, and feeding her, and helping Brandi out in other ways - THANK YOU!

I went there a little after 5 ~ I did see a light brown dog with a black muzzle, but it looked too tall, maybe the height of a sheltie? The muzzle had a lot more black than the one in the photo above. I pulled over on top of that hill near the feedlot, and walked to the culvert, but couldn't find the dog!

I was on the interstate around 4:45 p.m. till about 6:00 p.m. and drove from the fairgrounds exit to the Baker exit, then from the Baker exit to the fairgrounds exit, I did not spot Shy. I went to 4Bs and walked on the exit side of the barb wire fence behind 4Bs and walked to the trees behind motel 6 on the hill of the exit, I put out dish of cat food by a tree on the exit by motel 6 and 4Bs will go check dish in the morning.

MAN, what a slippery dog!

I'm starting to wonder if she'll ever be caught and returned to her owner.

Anyway, good luck to all in the continued search.

PS 100 POSTS!!!...certainly that tells one how much this dog means to Brandi.

i am currently a student and not working during the day. I will be sure to go out during the day and look. I will also put some cat food out and see if she turns up, i know my moms dog love cat food! Hopefully she does too. Is there a time that people see her more than others?? Just trying to see if there is a pattern to her appearances, that might make it easier to be there when she turns up in a specific area.

It seems around noon or thereafter east of the Broadus Exit. If anyone thinks different, please post. Remember she does respond to shaking your car keys, saying "Let's go for a ride." That doesn't mean she will come right up to you, but she might come closer. Thanks, Vickie

I'm starting to wonder if the dog that has been spotted between the Baker and Broadus exits isn't a dog belonging to someone close to the interstate. Has anyone canvased the area? It's hard to believe there may still be Miles Citians that DON'T read mc.com ~~~but they may exist!

My husband was driving along the interstate between the Baker and Broadus interchanges the last three days and said he saw the same dog each time -Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, between 3 and 4pm each time. He said it was right along the interstate, right along the road, near the point where you can see the Solaris feedlot. He was telling me about it tonight and I asked if it was a smaller tan dog - "yes" - with a curly tail - "yes" - I asked if it looked like the missing dog on milescity.com - "what dog on milescity.com?" I showed him the picture on this thread and he was absolutely positive it was Shy. She is still in the same general area!

It seems the dog is in one area. Should a search day be arranged, like when a child goes missing? 50 people or so walking just a few feet apart. Maybe others starting from the opposite side and walking toward the first group.

I don't want to organize, but as a start Saturday or Sunday 3pm., or even an evening earlier in the week. Meet at Town Pump truck egress lot....go fron there. Don't forget orange vests etc for safty. Let's find this dog in an organized fashion. I'll help search, but am too busy to do final plans. Anyone can you please take the reigns?

Thank you for the sighting news. I get so excited each time someone sees her, I just wish my baby would finally go up to one of you wonderful people so that we could be reunited. Being a over the road truck driver I am stuck out on the road and don't have the option to be there full time which is killing me. I don't know what I would do without all of your wonderful help and words of encouragement. I pray each day will be the day I get the call that I can come get me baby.

I appreciate everyone looking for Shy. I am afraid that if she sees a group of people coming towards her she will head for the hills since she runs away from only one. I am trying to request time off so that I can fly back out there. I would only be able to be there for a couple of days but I definitely know she is in the area and as long as she feels safe and unthreatened she may hang around. I will post more details when I find out when I can get up there exactly. Thanks to all of you so much.

I went on the interstate from the Broadus exit to the Baker exit around 10:00 a.m. today and saw a small brown, tan, dog on the shoulder of the road, when I pulled over the dog looked at me then turned and went behind the guard rail by the feedlot and I could not find the dog. I went out again on the interstate at 4:00 p.m. and went back to the spot I saw the dog, this morning, and I left a pan of dog food with canned cat food in it and will go check the pan each day, and will keep putting food in it.

That's not a bad idea, Laura...but if the food disappears that may be a coyote, deer or other wild animal eating it, and not necessarily the dog. Just saying.

I have to say this story of Shy really has some interest to me - it is a good example of an owners' devotion to her companion, AND a friendly town's willingness to pull together and help...which is all the more reason why I hope this has a happy ending when it's all said and done. The media may have some interest in it, too.

To those who will be making efforts at finding Shy in the next couple of days and in the near future, I wish you good luck...I, myself, will probably be in Miles for Christmas - hopefully Shy is rescued before then, but if she's not and she's still been seen I may spend a little time looking while I'm there.

We saw her this morning and it was definitely Shy just east of Solaris Feeders i.e. the feedlot. As we slowed down the car, she took off up the hill at a good clip but it was definitely her. Steve, who has good eyes, made the identification. She looks skinny but uninjured.

angelfy: Yes,the feed lot has been called SEVERAL times, their dog is black/white. There are 2 other places closer to the interstate, (before the feedlot) I'll bet one of them owns a light brown, short haired dog. Although I think it would be an incredible and heartwarming story if Shy was still roughing it on her own, I know the dog I saw up in that area was not her. I was sure it was, until I got back home and looked at Shy's pic again...

Shy ran across the interstate towards the feedlot about 15 minutes ago. She saw my husbands car slow down and disappeared. He got out and called for her, but he did not see anymore sign of her. And it IS Shy. Sent the picture to my husband immediately after he saw her to confirm. She has a distinct look to her.

If she is not found before it snows, maybe after a fresh snow , someone might track here to her hole or hiding spot. Leave it be and get a live trap there , doesn`t sound like she will come to anyone. If she is not scared from there she will probly keep going back to that place. Good luck . Some straw in a live trap would keep her warm!

We know it is the dog, so please leave it alone until the owner can get here. You will just make the dog move as she will feel threatened.
Top
Posted by White (+10) 14 years ago
I see the "leave her alone" so she doesn't get scared and hide even more argument... but not trying to catch her when she dashes in front of your car would be silly. How many times can a dog run across an interstate before getting hit? Not to mention... when the owner of said dog posts a "please find my dog" and puts up flyers... yea, usually people try to find the dog.
Top
Posted by tax payer (+344) 14 years ago
She has been living by the interstate for quite awhile with out being hit. But if she is scared and runs across trying to get away from someone might cause her to be hit. I feel she will only come to her owner. Why not ask the owner what she wants done at this stage of the game?

Shy has been found. I had put my 2 live traps out by the interstate. Tues.had a cat. Wed. had a cat. Prayed that God would lead her to the trap, and low and behold this morning she looked at me from inside the trap. I put her in the pickup and let her out of the trap and she jumped into my lap and licked my face. She is at the vet clinic now. Both her and I now have flee's. We both got sprayed and should be flee free soon. Shy's mom has been called. She is in route. Praise God.

The dog does look somewhat different in the "then" and "now" photos - more scrawny now, understandably, but you can see it's still her face.

Brandi, I think the fact that Shy was attacked by the Pitt Bull, ran for her life, too afraid to go to anyone, and was lost from you and Tom in a strange place, made so many of us determined to help her reunite with her mama. I can't imagine how she felt; that's what kept so many of us hoping and praying. Dixie is Shy's Guardian Angel, without a doubt.

People that have been reading and commenting, please remember that Shy didn't slip away from Brandi, she was attacked by a Pitt Bull, that came out of nowhere at the truck stop, and before Tom or Brandi could grab her, she slipped out of her collar, that was attached to her leash that they were holding onto, and ran up the hill behind the truck stop. Brandi and Tom stayed eight days in a motel looking for her. Brandi then returned looking again and was coming back Saturday to look again. Shy has always been "shy" and wouldn't go to others. Looks like Dixie won her trust. What a happy ending. Vickie

Hmmmm... Fleas? what the hell? Nothing shocking about that, right? But that wasn't it. Read it again but this time take the "r" out of sprayed and you'll read it the way I did the first time.

What wonderfull news that the dog has been found. Had looked for her a number of time with no sucess. A happy ending ala the old time Lassie books.

Have come to believe her hideout was across the T Y ditch from the Micheals addition, and in between the big lighted advertising sign and the interstate underpass that goes to the feed lot. Near the ditch it's kinda a jungle. big weeds, downed trees etc. The last time I was there it was home to a couple ferral cats.

We may never know, where she hung out, what she ate nor where she drank. Would'nt be ironic that she may have been adopted by one of those cats and helped her to survive. Perhaps, that could be the source of the fleas. She had to get them from some host. Dixie you are my hero!!

Wonderful news. Miles City is a pretty incredible place. I moved there in 1965 from Virginia as a 15-year-old in a December blizzard. I and my brothers and sister were immediately welcomed and accepted. The people are caring, giving, and acutely aware of what is really important in life. I have been gone from Miles City since 1970 but have great respect for all who live there. The winters are harsh (I remember some very serious blizzards and my work as a Junior Red Cross volunteer) and I am thankful Shy is being returned to you now. I have had several pets, and several now, that bring such meaning and joy to my life and I am so glad that you will be reunited with Shy this weekend.

I think someone should contact Oprah, or some show that does human interest stories. Maybe someone in the local media knows how to go about that. It seems to me like there was something on one of the network news programs lately about communities making a difference,or something like that.

Ty, I would, but if she picks up Shy between now and 3PM I cannot. I'm sitting at the Radio station controlling the Montana Grizzlies Football Game.

If someone does record it, feel free to send it along and I'll post it on the MilesCityFeed.com YouTube Channel.

Anyone else thinking of putting a little token of sorts on the fence for when Brandi pulls up? Maybe even some balloons? I'd have liked to think of a shorter phrase for a shirt that would have the effect of, "My Dog went Camping in Miles City, MT ~ and all I got was this shirt!"

Josh ~ please try to be there, I can't imagine she's going to get here before 3 if her plane is due after 12 noon.

Posted by Josh Rath (+2332) 14 years ago
Oh, if she is arriving in Billings at noonish, if the plane is even near being on time... Then getting her rental car, and driving here, she probably won't be here till late. If she gets here about 3ish 4ish, then I'll be good. Cause the Griz are just getting to halftime. They started at noon, so they should be done by 2:30-3ish. I just need a plugin for the camera, which I am sure they could provide.

Gene, if you could call me when Brandi is in town that would be great, because I am happy to record this but I don't wish to stand there and wait for hours.

Edit: Laura just called and told me she should be there 3ish. All i have on me is my Laptop so I'll just set it up and have it record.

I'm editing the video. It is of poor quality, but it will do. The sound is absent, so i am putting a guitar in as a filler. If anyone who was there has some video or pictures they would share with me so they can be added to the video that would be awesome! Just reply here if you do.

I will upload the video later tonight, once I find out if anyone else will chime in with some pics or video.

I have to say this.

How did god play a part in this, T. Brown? Dixie and MANY other kind PEOPLE went out looking for Shy, and Dixie happened to be the one to get her. Shy wandered into the trap because of something in it, not because "God told her to". The same with Shy surviving this 3 months. God didn't save her, these kind people who set out food did.

Tax Payer, it is a very nice story, and my remark is not pertaining to this story in particular.

polar bear, STFU. If that is what you believe that is fine, but when people say that something like this is "the work of god" it irritates me. You would be saying that God did this, and not Dixie, taking the credit when she rightfully deserves away from her.
Top
Posted by polar bear (+509) 14 years ago
I don't know what STFU is, but Josh you need to be a bit more tolerant.

Many of us know that God used Dixie because she was willing and that is where she deserves credit.

I love how you changed your message after I had posted mine. Also, for the people who do not know how to use google...

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=What...FU+Mean%3F

...Anywhoo.... STFU generally means "Shut The F**K Up", but has a multitude of other versions.

As I said before, I'm not "stomping" other peoples religion, I just don't feel it should be said like that. Especially when it clearly wasn't "god" that found Shy.

I am very tolerant, but not of people like you who exist to make trouble.

Finally, "God used Dixie". Wow, really? So you are saying Dixie has no free will what so ever?

OK, I get it. He is telling me to be silent, but that he can post his beliefs here. I get it.

Josh, I can see that religion and faith in your presence make you really angry so I won't pursue this on the board.

My "changed message" was not changed. I only changed phrasing to clarify. It says the same thing it did to begin with. I also corrected typo. Nothing was done to incite you.

I am sorry that you have done this a heart warming story. Not cool.

I'm not angry in anyway, shape, or form. Just stating a point here. People who believe "God Used so-and-so" are in for a wake up call. By saying that, you are saying that person has no free thinking ability, similar to a robot. When, in something I like to call "reality", we all know we have Free Will. This is why I am able to contest with you about this, and you are able to respond.

Josh Rath....I happen to believe that God has his hand in EVERYTHING! I did not ask you for your opinion. This thread is for Brandi and Shy. I appreciate you posting the pics and Video when you get them done...but your comments were totally unnecessary and uncalled for. What ever your religion or beliefs are...are your business...I really don't care. You really should not care what mine are. I have the right to say how I feel just like you. God Bless even you...and have a great night!
Top

T Brown, I honestly do not care if you asked for an opinion or not, this is why it is an opinion. My comments, necessary or not, do not matter. Why? Because this is a forum. A place for free speech, and almost no rules.

Free speech and STFU? Isn't that a little incongruent Josh?

God Bless even you...

even, even?
Why the qualifier?
Better just to say God Bless you, than to add the barb.

Why all the uproar over someone, especially a young person questioning. I think it is healthy and a sign of intelligence and a willing to push the envelope to question.

I would rather someone question than to just fall in step with the status quo.

Questioning is how we learn.
Top

He is not questioning, he is saying things like STFU and implying that anyone's idea except his is stupid. This is not questioning, it is arrogance and extremely intolerant of beliefs of others.

I have to say this.
How did god play a part in this, T. Brown? Dixie and MANY other kind PEOPLE went out looking for Shy, and Dixie happened to be the one to get her. That is a question, followed by his observations.

Then you, polar bear, instigated. Had you induldged his question and comments/observations in a manner that was not confrontational and patronizing, I'm sure this would have a different outcome.

You really threw away a teachable moment.

In the last pic of Shy, it looks like her front rt foot is turned in a little? Is that just how she was laying, or was her foot injured in the attack? Were there any scars from the attack?
I was also wondering about her first reaction to seeing Brandi. In my experience with being away from a pet for any extended time, they are usually "mad" and you and ignore you for a while. I bet once she got home and into familiar surroundings that ole tail was spinning

In case I haven't expressed why I think Shy went to my trap I'll tell you my story. Josh, you can not change my mind that God had a hand in it. I checked the traps very late Wed. night. As I was driving home I talked to God. (we are on a first name basis). I told God that I knew he loved animals because of the arc and Noah. I explained how thin Shy looked and that colder weather was sure to be arriving and that I didn't know if Shy could make it much longer. I asked God to lead Shy to one of my traps. Thurs. morning there she was. You can believe what you want, but you will never damper my belief that God had a hand in the rescue.

Josh - go somewhere else and whine about this. You have effectively screwed up what has been a very positive link. Shame on you for not allowing us to enjoy this happy occasion without your pettiness and bringing it off subject. Sure, you can have your opinions, but put them in the appropriate place in an adult manner. You prove over and over again your immaturity, i.e., your recent advice to Polar Bear to ST*** - childish at best. Perhaps your finishing school would give you the necessary appropriate vocabulary to express yourself in an adult manner. Now you are being more childish saying things like "I have day-to-day stuff to do." You volunteered to post the pics. Either get over yourself or go away, child. This is a forum for grown-ups.
Top
Posted by Josh Rath (+2332) 14 years ago
I'm not whining at all. Just having a civilized chat. I have no clue how I have screwed this up, considering everything about Shy and Brandi is ABOVE my chatter... But say what you must.

Every time I have a conversation on this forum why does some bimbo like you bring up the fact that I have yet to finish school? That is completely irrelevant. At least I do not hide behind some petty nickname to keep my name from being tarnished. I could care less. If you decide you wish to not like me because of what I believe and not because of who i truly am so be it.

How is saying "I along with many others have day to day stuff I have to do which is currently higher on the list that uploading the reunion video. ", being childish? I'm sure when you do something for free, but also have stuff that you are being paid for, the free stuff is put onto the "back burner". Yeah, I did volunteer to post the VIDEO, and I will. When I am available to do so.

What is there to get over? Also, I may be 17, but age is just a number. Oh, and... When has this forum been for grown-ups? Have you seen some of the topics on here?

This one is simply about a lady who lost her pet, has searched in earnest and expense, the many who tried and did help, and another fine lady who managed to finally capture him. Let's leave it at that.

If you've got some religious debate, stick it in another thread, in the appropriate forum.

Dixie, thank you and others in Miles City for showcasing what Miles City people are all about.

Been wondering how you might be related to our former neighbors. We live on South Lake from 1964-about 1972 and had Rieger neighbors on our side street. They were such wonderful people -- inviting us to a family ranch for branding, etc. -- and my parents in particular were so fond of them. I believe my sister Peggy Mahoney Wohlgenant was a classmate of one of your relatives.

Hope your winter is not too cold. We have our first cold snap tonight with temps here in the Houston, TX area in the mid 40s -- quite a surprise after really spring like weather all fall.

Take care all Montanans this winter.

Thank you for stepping in and putting a stop to the BS on the best forum Miles City had. I, as well as others, have been proud that it has maintained what it started out to be....about a dog and a woman that fought hard to reunite and the wonderful people of Miles City that didn't give up and helped bring them together. Dixie, without a doubt, a big hero in this. Brandi went away thinking this was the best place she had ever been. Now when she reads how the forum she started has ended with so much fighting, she must be hurt as she prayed daily for people and Shy to find each other. What a reunion....still brings goosebumps.
The FINAL ending, however, was an insult to all those involved, rather they searched, prayed, kept up with it from far away, and to Brandi and her family. That's just my opinion. Brandi would not want this. Vickie

When Shy, a terrier-pug mix, stepped out of her vehicle safely on a leash on August 18, her owner Brandi Baker was not expecting a three month emotional roller coaster ride. Baker was just trying to give her dog a break in the long ride between homes as she changed jobs. A sudden attack by another dog sent Shy loss, injured, afraid and running for her life. After dealing with the attacker, Baker searched for Shy but was unable to find her.
With a limited time before she had to be at her new job, Baker made and displayed numerous poster around town picturing Shy and asking for help locating her lost dog. With no information about the missing dog turning up and time in town running out, Baker decided to ask for help by posting a notice on the Internet site 'milescity.com'. Regular readers of the web site started looking for Shy and posting any possible sightings they had of the little lost dog. All the sightings had one thing in common, Shy was living up to her name by running and hiding as soon as anyone tried to stop and help her.
When most of the sightings seamed to be in one area, Baker arrange to make a quick trip to Miles City to see if her voice could being the allusive dog in close enough to be captured. Because time off from a new job is hard to come by, the trip had to be short and Baker came up empty in her attempts to call in Shy and to return home empty handed.
The sighting of Shy reported on the web site narrowed to a small area near the interstate between the Broadus and Baker interchanges, near Solarus Feeders. To help keep the dog in that area and hopefully make Shy a bit less shy, some of the .com followers started putting out food near the interstate in about the middle of the area Shy was being sighted in. The food did keep her in the area but did nothing to slow Shy's run into hiding when a car would slow down near her.
Once again Brandi Baker arranged for a few days off so she could fly in and look for her missing Shy. Baker posted she would be arriving in town on Saturday November 14 but would have to leave, whither she found Shy or not on Monday. Hope raised for all those following the story on the milescity.com thread as sightings increased and Baker's arrival drew near.
When the weather began to turn colder last week and with a storm predicted to arrive before the weekend, Dixie Rieger, one of the numerous people following the thread and spending hours of free time searching, decided to up her effort hoping to give Baker a happy ending to this story. Rieger arrange to get the use of two live catch traps. She then found the smelliest food she could, smoky meat chunks, to bait the traps with.
Monday, November 9, Dixie Rieger put the two traps out, one on each side of the interstate highway, with the fragrant meat chunks on the trigger. Tuesday morning Rieger checked the traps only to find a cat in one of them and the other empty. Wednesday morning found the same results, one angry cat and one empty trap. Thursday morning's search however brought joy. The cat apparently stayed home letting Shy find her way into the trap.
After loading the trap into her pickup, Rieger open it up and was greeted with joyous kisses from a very grateful Shy. After everyone settled down, it was off to the East Main Animal Clinic for the pair. Here the first exam revealed that Shy had picked up many flea hitch hikers and had shared them with Rieger. So both of them got a quick flea bath before the little devils spread any further. Then Shy got a thorough examination, a worming and a favorite toy Baker had left for her. The bite wound Shy got from the dog chasing her off, had healed well but left a distinct scare on her side. Other then the fleas, new scare and lost weight Shy was in good shape. When Brandi Baker was contacted and told the good news, she said her and Shy would be flying back Wisconsin. To make sure there would be no paper work problems to delay the trip, Shy was given all the shots she needed for the planned plain trip.
Brandi Baker arrived in Miles City Saturday afternoon and headed to the East Main Animal Clinic for her reunion with her long absent friend. About a dozen of the people who had been following the thread on milescity.com and helping with search were on hand to take part in the reunion. There were smiles and frantic tail wags all around as Baker and Shy became reacquainted. The shy Shy was even willing to be held and petted by this group of strangers as long as she could see Baker near by. When the day's cool temperature start the now thinner Shy shivering, clinic staff members quickly appeared with a selection of sweaters for Shy to choose from along with a box of food and treats for the flight home. Julie Axelberg soon showed up with a soft sided pet carrier so Shy would be able to take her first flight sitting reassuringly on Baker's lap. Dixie Rieger could not be on hand for the reunion but, with the return flight scheduled for Monday, she did get to meet Baker Sunday afternoon before she and Shy had to leave town.
The good news, reunion photos and best wishes quickly added another 50 or so additions to the internet thread that had informed, encouraged and guided searchers to the joyous conclusion of this lost dog story. A story of how old fashioned community spirit, coordinated and encouraged through the latest high tech methods, ends happily with an owner and dog reunited in a loving embrace.
