MILES CITY CALENDAR OF EVENTS

TODAY, September 22: 5 - 6:30 p.m.
Karl Rosston talks about SOS
School-based Suicide Awareness & Prevention Program
Methodist Church, 24 N. 11th St.

The SOS: Signs of Suicide Program is a nationally recognized and easily implemented program focusing on suicide awareness and prevention at the secondary school level. The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services are willing to purchase the SOS Program for all Montana secondary school who are willing to implement the program.

Please plan to attend to learn more about what we can do as parents and educators to help increase the awareness of depression and risks of suicide.

Sept 26: Joan Nye, Chair, Montana Chapter AFSP
QPR: Question, Persuade, Refer
1 - 2:15 p.m. @ CCDHS Lobby

Joan Nye, Chair of the Montana Chapter, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), teaches QPR: Question, Persuade, Refer. She will also be showing the excellent AFSP movie, "More than Sad: Teen Depression".

QPR is the "CPR" of suicide awareness and prevention, a class available to anyone. It takes only 1ΒΌ hour. In a QPR class one learns to recognize the potential for suicide in a
person and how to respond. QPR gatekeeper training is a proven intervention skill, designed for all adults. The US Air Force has used it for many years. The class features the risk factors and warning signs, teaches behavioral, verbal and situational clues, and dispels the myths about suicide and suicidal ideation.

After a short coffee and cookie break at 2:15, Joan will be showing the 20 minute video "Teen Depression: More Than Sad". This 20 minute video is designed for high school and middle school students to learn the signs of teen depression, what to do to help, and that help is available. I encourage you to attend this educational presentation. This presentation would be great for all middle and high school students as well as parents.
