Show us the ugly side first...

Has anyone noticed the new State Data Center presents its ugly side to the public? WHY is the wall full of generator radiators and a fuel tank on the front of the building? It looks very industrial and ugly from Haynes Avenue. And what's the deal with the driveway, too cheap to put in curbs and gutters and a sidewalk? I hope the landscaping dresses it up a bit.

It's an industrial building Chad. They generally look industrial. And it appears to not be finished. I expect the finished product will be quite pleasing to the eye. It's a government building after all. It will be landscaped, and there will be paving and curbs and gutters and all the really good stuff. Just don't be the 1st to post about government waste when it looks way too pretty.

Here's a view of the, um, better looking side:

I would be curious to know if the architect specifically opted to put the generator and tank on the more visible side of the building... and why.

Maybe the workers in this facility need to read and decode mirror messages from Signal Butte.

I'm guessing the entrance is in the back because that's where the parking lot is? But you have a point that having the back facing haynes is a little odd. I wonder why they chose to put it on haynes anyway. Surely it would have been cheaper to locate it elsewhere in town since it doesn't need traffic or anything.

I think its location has something to do with where the fiber optic cable was - or something like that. There was spme reason, as I recall, that they wanted that specific spot.

If I Recall, this land was pre-owned by the state. So, if anything, less expensive putting it here than anywhere else. And yeah, I believe they built it backwards.

Working for a natural gas utility...I wonder why those generators are not using natural instead of fuel oil? Way less maintenance! Most all the gen sets here in West Yellowstone are on natural gas or propane. That alone would eliminate the tank eyesore and the bollards and/or fence to come as well.

Perhaps they plan to plant trees and shrubbery to obscure the view?

I'm expecting a large chain-link fence with plastic privacy slats. Beautiful:

I believe they built it backwards.

It may be that the building is facing what will be the continued Fort street. There is enough space for another building/business between the data center and Haynes ave.

Along with some lovely bollards!

I think Josh is right, if I recall it is on state land.
