Newspaper on Sunday.

The Business Section asked
readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?"

I think this guy nailed it!

Dear Mr. President, Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy.

Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan. You can call it the

Patriotic Retirement Plan:

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. - Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire.. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new American CAR. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members in Congress and their constituents pay their taxes...

and Mr. President...while you're at it...make congress retire on Social Security and Medicare...I'll bet both programs would be
fixed...pronto!!

If you think this would work, please forward to everyone you know.
If not, please disregard.

Just nutty. How in the world would businesses function if every employee over the age of 50 retired? It is extremely expensive to train a new employee, especially someone with less work and life experience than a 50 year old. What are you going to do? Hire a 22 year old just out of college to replace someone with 25 years of work experience? Stupid is as stupid does.

Truthfully . . . I don't know who wrote that statement. I got it in an e-mail and just thought it was funny. Hope you got a chuckle too.

Oh come on now... Retirees are replaced by the next most senior employees & new hires start at the bottom, I'm pretty sure that wouldn't change. I realize it's only hypothetical, but this plan sounds like it would work out better than the dollar devaluing mess they are making now. imo.
