Here's a panoramic montage of Haynes Avenue from Carbon Hill that I took back in the mid-1980's. It is comprised of 6 individual photos.

That is a great picture. I'd forgotten how desolate it used to be out there LOL. Any chance someone can take a picture from the same viewpoint today?

Cool. That was when S. Haynes Ave. was being rebuilt from a 2-lane "highway" with borrow pits on each side to a 3-lane street with curb, gutter, and sidewalks. I think that was 1984-1985? Also, it looks like Taco Johns is undergoing expansion/remodeling in that photo. Remember when TJ's didn't have any seating? I'd forgotten about the Carbon Hill trailer court.

Amazing how much it has changed.

Down at the Olive, they have a city assayers map of town from 1914. It is huge. It shows the original river beds and believe me, town ended at the last big house on main street. Those were even out in the country. The only thing out there back then was the state school. Three buildings and a church, about a mile out of town at that time.
There were a couple houses along a road, but it was not Haynes Ave, yet. I don't remember if it was called a highway yet, or a road at that.

Hope they still have it.

I'd forgotten about the Carbon Hill trailer court.

That was the result of an evil plot to ruin the best sledding and tubing spot that Miles City youth have ever known. I remember the wide area for sleds and toboggans. Off to the north side there was a bumpy inner tube run. Everyone walked up the "stairs" to keep the runs smooth. Hours and hours of great fun.

I agree with MG... that was THE best sledding location. I always thought that if I wanted to tear the fabric of time and space on a piece of cardboard doing 90 MPH downhill... it was my business.

Larry, this is awesome - thanks for sharing!

So, we're narrowing it down to around 1984-1985?

I think we ought to campaign for all parks to have a requisite hill for the many purposes a hill fulfills, in all seasons.

I can just see the peak of our old house right behind the pink War Bonnet Inn. Great photo Larry, thanks for the memories! Anyone want to create a photo of what it looks like today? It would be fun to compare the two views.

No McDonald's yet, so it is mid-1985 or earlier for sure.

This is a really fabulous picture. Tells a story on its own. Someone please take another for comparison!
