Natural gas rates are increasing for 84,000 Montana Dakota Utilities customers.
The overall rate increase, of 1.4 percent, was approved Tuesday by the Montana Public Service Commission. Collectively, MDU's Montana customers are expected to pay $975,000 more per year.
The amount of the rate increase was misreported Tuesday by the PSC, which Wednesday issued corrected figures.
The money will pay for gas pipeline replacement, according to MDU.
Most of MDU's customers are in the Billings area, where the utility has 51,200 gas meters. Its remaining customer base includes Eastern Montana communities from Malta and Miles City to Sidney.
The utility had asked for 4.1 percent. Collectively, Montana ratepayers would have paid an additional $2.8 million annually under MDU's request.
