A 21-year-old man, wounded in a Custer County shooting Thursday that left a woman dead, is being held in custody pending an investigation.

Sheriff Tony Harbaugh on Friday identified the man as Travis Doss but is not yet releasing the identity of the woman pending notification of relatives.

Harbaugh said the woman, also 21, suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Doss, who had a gunshot wound to his head, was released from Holy Rosary Healthcare and taken to the Custer County Detention Center where he is being held on an affidavit for probable cause involving the woman's death, Harbaugh said.

Law enforcement responded on Thursday shortly after dispatch received a call at 10:30 a.m. from a person in the Moon Creek area that a shooting had occurred at his residence, Harbaugh said. The area where the shooting occurred is about 30 to 40 miles outside of Miles City.

Officers found Doss, who was wounded, and a woman, who was declared dead at the scene. Doss was transported to the hospital for treatment.
