WALLACE BADGETT
From 'Fanning the Embers', published 1971, Range Rider Reps, Miles City, Montana
My parents, Lee Sherman and Carolyn (Lower)Badgett, homesteaded on Otter Creek near Ashland, Mont.
I was born Sept. 5, 1904, at Ashland. My childhood was very enjoyable as I was able to learn the ranching business from real old timers, like my Father and others. It has always been a joy to me, even though it has been real discouraging at times.
I attended school in Miles City, elementary and Custer High. My school days were very happy, and one of the many nice things was that I was a member of the first Championship Basketball Team that Custer High ever had.
After finishing high school, I came back to Otter Creek on the old home ranch. I married Carlyle St. John Dec. 26, 1929, at Miles City. We lived on the ranch here until the spring of 1937, when I went to work for Ed Love as Manager of his ranches for the next 28 years. After leaving there, my brother, Kirk, and I purchased the old Kid Anderson Ranch on Otter Creek. We moved back here, and together we operate part of the ranches we had in the 1920's.
We have one child, Josephine Carlyle, now Mrs. A. G. Anderson, living in Chico, Calif.
