Classified Ads Ban of Weapons?

Google is freaking out over ads for weapons in the classifieds area. I've ignored them, and it's gotten to the point where I'm now on thin ice. Google provides the bulk of monthly revenue required to keep this site operating, so for that reason those types of ads may no longer be allowed on MilesCity.com.

Google's policy is as follows ...

Weapon-related content

What's the policy?

We want to help keep people safe both online and offline, so we don't allow the promotion of weapons-related content that may lead to damage, harm, or injury. For this reason, Google ads may not be placed on pages that contain the following weapons-related content:

* Pages that promote the sale of firearms. This includes but is not limited to handguns, rifles, shotguns, hunting guns, functioning antique guns, airsoft guns, paintball guns, bb guns, and 3D printed guns;

* Pages that promote the sale of a firearm-related part or component that is essential to, or enhances the functionality of a firearm. This includes but is not limited to 80% finished gun-parts, ammunition, ammunition clips, silencers, ammunition belts, stocks, conversion kits, gun-grips, scopes and sights;

* Pages that provide instructions about the assembly, enhancement or acquisition of any firearms including parts or components thereof. This includes, but is not limited to firearm-making instructions, guides, software or equipment for 3D printing of guns or gun parts;

* Pages that promote the sale of products that are designed to explode or could cause damage to nearby people or property. This includes but is not limited to explosives, nail bombs, chemical bombs, any fireworks that explode, firecrackers, and grenades;

* Pages that contain instructional content about the assembly, enhancement or acquisition of explosive items;

* Pages that promote the sale of other weapons that are designed to (in modern-day usage) injure an opponent in sport, self-defense, or combat. This includes but is not limited to the sale of throwing stars, brass knuckles, pepper spray;

* Pages that promote the sale of knives designed to provide a confrontational advantage. This includes disguised appearance or assisted-opening mechanisms such as switchblades, fighting knives, sword-canes, balisongs, military knives, push daggers, throwing axes;

* Pages that promote the use of weapons to inflict harm on others.

I know this would not be popular, and I'm sorry, but my hands are kind of tied (unless some sponsor wants to come up with a few thousand dollars per year to get rid of the Google ads instead - which I don't expect to happen).

Regards, Larry

Larry,
Sad day indeed, when each of my kids leaves home for school/ college I provided and trained them on the use of pepper spray. According to the Google policy even a simple self defense oriented post is prohibited?

I know. I'm not defending Google. And haven't removed any ads. Will wait to see what others think.

So close down the site Lenny , it is dead anyway because of your I believe mismanagement and abuse by your friends and monitor lizards. I mean really your lizards are liars and you approve and support them and this abuse and you will not even use your real name. When your people look up license plate numbers on vehicles that I list for sale on your failing website and say I am "Paula" and make up a story how he or it knew the person who lived in the house and walked past it 20 years ago or something and I "Paula" lived there well it is another lying milescity.com make believe. Yes Paula lives there and has for 3 years. your abusive idiot that you support said that she lived there 20 years ago as he walked by the house when he was in high school. A liar. Japan did not invade the US due to personal firearm ownership. you are a sellout lenny. An anti-American sellout. But anyone who knows you - whatever. Anti free speech and anti 2nd amendment.Remember when you wanted to keep people from posting firearms on the now all but dead milescity.com website a few years ago?Remember when someone told you google spies on everyone they can daily?Does lenny get it that google is using even this milescity.com dead website to spy on Americans?And lenny is helping and does not even live in Miles City,just do your damage wherever you can and with people that may have done illegal acts who are your buddies and I think you approve.Just shut milescity.com down and I believe the world will be a better place.Or just turn it over to mcd and that will do it.she kind of is the lead poster here on nonsense in my book.I cannot wait for the nonsense responses to this that will follow.Every democrat hates the truth and that is all you have here lenny.Maybe I will check back in a couple of weeks.I just come here to laugh,lenny it seems that you kind of now are just a joke amoungst people I know that trade on the internet.But you have your friends at milescity.com lol. So funny.Maybe you can sleep with that algorerhythem that makes you no money.Maybe we can talk internal medical devices that I have designed.Ummmmm I think not.Sooooo funny.Use your real name lenny.

Well, that was off-topic and not very nice.

Uhm, as per the last sentence, my name is Larry Antram (or "Lawrence Lynn Antram" if you prefer the full legal version). I'm pretty sure everyone knows that here.

Not to get into your rant, but ... OK ... I won't.

Good day. Hope tomorrow is better.

Well that's to bad Larry. I for one have sold many firearms using this site because all of the others have banned it. Don't get me wrong I don't sell to just anybody but I guess you have to do what's right for you. I will just go back to selling them on the radio show in the mornings like I use to do, just sucks because I can't post pictures on the radio lol.

Thanks for all you have provided in the past but with no firearm sales I for one will not be on here as much as I have been and there for won't be donating any more money just to come on here and see what MCD has to post 13 times a day

RR01 never comes to this "dead" site but it only took her about 2 hours and 1 minute to respond to this post.

I think you need to ask yourself how much it’s worth to you to keep mc.com going. I know you’ve dumped a bucket load of your own money into it over the years and you’ve caught a lot of bullcrap for it at times. MilesCitydotcom has been, and could continue to be, a good place to spend time. If the costs (and/or jumping through google hoops) are worth it to you and you decide to continue that will be great. But, if you want to pull the plug, I’m good with that too. But, it’s your call Lenny.

I’d probably take it down if google started coming at me like this – what’s next?.

Hal makes some good points. The sad reality of it all, is that people are corporate sheep and have been migrating over to f***book. I will never sign up for that corporate crap, but I am the exception, rather than the rule. Do as you see fit, Lenny.

As an aside, I am giving up Fantasy Football this year. After the Eagles won the Super Bowl finally, I realize I have no need to root for other players than Eagles to succeed.

I also have bought and sold several firearms on this site. I usually look at it every day or two just to see if there are any posted that I may be interested in. It will be too bad if this service is no longer available, as places such as Facebook already prohibit firearms.

I like this site and have found it to e a useful tool over the years, and it is an asset to the community.

To be able to buy and sell firearms is legal and protected by our constitution and I appreciate being able to use Miles City.com to aid in this activity.

The forum section however has been used extensively as an outlet for liberal bias--also detrimental to society and to our American way of life.

I once heard of a family who was murdered with a claw hammer. Should these kinds of tools be banned by Google as well in order to further protect society?

Bill Stroh, I agree with three of your four points. The one I take exception to is:

"The forum section however has been used extensively as an outlet for liberal bias--also detrimental to society and to our American way of life"

As someone who holds libertarian views, I believe that free speech is essential to our American way of life, and anyone who has opposing views to those posted is more than welcome here to post their responses. Over many years of posting here, I have always welcomed opposing viewpoints and my views have been changed as a result of intelligent discussion occasionally.

Although many on each side seek to categorize all of us, there are many who despise liberals and despise Trumptards equally, and are not afraid to post our views here. Lenny and Squiggy should be commended for their acceptance of free speech on milescity.com

Bill Stroh. A claw hammer has an alternate use besides shooting up people. You generally cannot wipe out an entire classroom with a claw hammer or kill 50 some people from across the street while they attempt to enjoy a C & W concert.

Just sayin',

I do however, disagree with the Classified Ads Ban of Weapons. I believe in the right to bear arms with reasonable restrictions. I suppose in Stroh's book that makes me a commie pinko anti-American etc, etc, but I don't give a damn.

Hello Bob

Firearms also have alternative uses. Same can be said for cars and airplanes which can also be purposely used to harm people.

I'm not much into name calling, so --no I don't think that about you. Our differences lie in how we would define reasonable restrictions. If those of us who are responsible and law abiding are restricted in the firearms and components that we can buy then we are restricted in our ability to protect ourselves, loved ones and our property. This is a fundamental freedom.

Hello Gunnar

My case in point. In no way would I want Google to restrict your right to voice your opinion here or to have them restrict mine. I am angry that they would move to restrict our 2nd amendment rights as well!

So... I get this pretty well Larry.
I spend around $5k a year on my hosting for my various websites, all of which are paid properties from clients but one... but Ad-sense does force my hand in decisions also with that particular property.

Anyhow, I would suggest a collaboration between Luci's Office (Mind you, I am unsure of your relationship.. if any.. with said company) and the Miles City Live Camera Website. I don't know financials of that space, but if she was able to Monetize it, maybe she could offer up her services locally to do the same.. and take a commission? Or is it possible to eliminate some of the resource heavy features to MC.com so a more inexpensive server can be used?

Bill Stroh,

Thanks for your reasonable, thoughtful answer. I am guessing there would be a distinct difference between what you and I think are reasonable restrictions but the fact that you are actually willing to consider SOME kind of restrictions is meaningful.

I agree Larry should let the chips fall where they may.
