Here’s hoping 2018 will be good to us all. Happy New Year Folks.

“The Story of Robert Burns and Auld Lang Syne”
--Lily Rowan
HISTORY DAILY
In 1788 Robert Burns sent the poem ‘Auld Lang Syne’ to the Scots Musical Museum, indicating that it was an ancient song but that he’d been the first to record it on paper. The phrase ‘auld lang syne’ roughly translates as ‘for old times’ sake’, and the song is all about preserving old friendships and looking back over the events of the year.

An Early American “Auld Lang Syne”
--Roger Lee Hall
WERE HISTORY
December 31, 2016
“Auld Lang Syne” is a staple of every New Year’s Eve, but few people are aware of this song’s original poignant purpose. Singing it began as a way to recall friends who had died in the previous year. In America in the middle of the nineteenth century, though, it became a way to reclaim the unity and purpose of a nation increasingly riven by divisions.

Thanks, Hal. But the Popcorn is being passed around on the Killer Dogs thread.

: -) Yeah, I figured that might turn into an "active" thread. It looks like it could be a good one for those who are into those kinds of threads. Me? I'm thinking a mug of black and a glass of rum will do.

Hope you folks in the 48s are keeping warm and safe.

A great New Year's Day here. Met a friend at the Silos at Canyon Ferry and we iced a couple of trout. Although it was minus 5, it was sunny and nice
A great way to bring in the year.

Now if only those trout would thaw so I can clean them.
