Moses Hunter, born in slavery in Virginia, veteran of the Civil War of 1861-1865, passed away this morning after having passed the century mark at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Thomas. According to his war records and honorable discharges, the late Mr. Hunter was born on Jan. 1, 1840 in Medford county, Va. Surviving are this daughter, Mrs. Susie Thomas, one grandchild, five great grandchildren and seven great, great grandchildren. The officers and members of Custer Post No. 5 of the American Legion will have charge of the last services, which will be military in nature.


This gentleman was Johnnie Thomas' husband great, great grandfather. There may be one more great in there somewhere.

I personally find this to be immensely amazing and incredible. That black American, born into slavery, fought in the Civil War. eventually died in MILES CITY?!???!???

This real life story line would make a great novel.
