Mass Shooting in Virginia

This morning I woke up to the terrible new of a mass shooting in Alexandria, Virginia which targeted Republican U.S. Representatives, U.S. Senators and some aides at a baseball practice field. This is truly terrible news. As a nation of laws, political problems are not solved by shooting lawmakers of either political party. The shooter apparently was a deranged, disgruntled Bernie Sanders supporter who is now dead! We can only hope those injured will have speedy recoveries, and that people will not resort to violence when they disagree politically. Violence is not the answer.

Yesterday I was very worried about Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) surviving his gun shot wounds, after I heard he needed several surgeries, but today he seems to be improving. That's good news! Having lived in Washington, D.C. for many years, I know the city has wonderful doctors and many great medical facilities. I hope Rep. Steve Scalise continues to improve rapidly. It seems Rep. Scalise was close to death when he arrived at the Emergency Department of Washington MedStar Hospital. A great medical/trauma team can do so much to help one survive terrible injuries.

In case you didn't hear Mark Kelly, husband of former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords (D-AZ) who was shot in 2011, interviewed on NPR this morning, I am attaching the link; to listen, click the arrow on the upper right.
