The GOP Health Care Plan

It seems not all Republicans are on board with the GOP Health Care Plan. It looks like it is going to be tough to "repeal and replace" the ACA when the GOP itself is so divided.

Some Republicans are probably against it because it stinks. Obamacare 0.5.

Politico is reporting today (March 10, 2017) that President Trump doesn’t want the GOP health care plan called Trumpcare. Perhaps it's because Trumpcare is not a wonderful health care plan and shows that Trump and the GOP really don’t care.

This article from Money Magazine analyzes who wins and who loses under the proposed GOP Trumpcare plan.

Fortune Magazine is reporting that the American Medical Association, the American Hospital Association and AARP all oppose the Trumpcare plan.

The GOP healthcare plan is brilliant! People will die of easily treated health issues before they can collect Social Security. Two birds, one stone.

Republicans claim the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) is a disaster. What is the real story? The ACA’s troubles are directly due to Republicans working to destroy it. So, how did they do it?

Risk corridors were set up in the ACA to help insurance companies that had too many new sick people on their rolls and too little cash from premiums to cover medical bills in the first three years under the health law. Republicans added a provision to a giant spending law to undermine a key financing mechanism in the ACA by limiting how much government can spend to protect insurance companies’ financial losses. The result was a quiet legislative sabotage of the ACA. Because of Republican efforts the government would pay only 13 percent of what insurance companies were expecting to receive to cope with the risks, they assumed when they agreed to participate in the law’s new insurance marketplaces. The result is an increase in premiums that the Republicans claim is the reason the ACA is a failure.

Who is at fault for the increased premiums? The Republicans. They passed the spending bill in December 2014 that included a "rider" that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services could not use any extra money in its budget to pay risk corridor expenses. By October 2015 it became apparent the risk corridors program wouldn’t work because of Republican interference. CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) announced a $2.5 billion shortfall. By October 2015 the head of the co-op Health Republic of Oregon said it would close its doors after learning that it would receive only $995,000 of the $7.9 million it had expected from the government. Twelve of the 23 nonprofit insurance cooperatives created under the ACA have failed because of federal abandonment. This disrupted coverage for more than 700,000 people. So who is to blame and who created this death-panel?

Hanson is right! Here are a couple of articles that explain how Marco Rubio and the GOP sabotaged the Affordable Care Act -- otherwise known as Obamacare. By the way, the Affordable Care Act was based upon the Heritage Foundation plan that Mitt Romney got passed into law while he was the Republican governor of Massachusetts from 2002--2007.

"Romney helped develop and enact into law the Massachusetts health care reform legislation, the first of its kind in the nation, which provided near-universal health insurance access through state-level subsidies and individual mandates to purchase insurance." (Mitt Romney, Wikipedia)

And, now Trump doesn't want the GOP health care plan called "Trumpcare" probably because he knows it is not a "wonderful" health care plan. It's odd that he wants his name on just about everything else -- hotels, casinos, wine, etc. -- but not health care.
