|The first Miles City Mud Run has been rescheduled for Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012 at the Eastern Montana Fairgrounds, from about 1-3 p.m.
The Mud Run offers both a 5K fun run/walk and a 1-mile fun run/walk over a muddy obstacle course.
The event is sponsored by the Miles City Star and Wake Up & Lace Up to benefit cancer patients and research. Several Relay for Life teams also will set up individual booths and activities.
The obstacle course at the fairgrounds will include straw bales, tires, telephone poles, stock tanks, slip and slides, walls, crawls, culverts and LOTS of mud and water.
The event is similar to the Dirty Dash, which is held in Billings and Missoula and in several other western states (www.dirtydash.com).
Members of the public also are encouraged to come and watch the races and cheer the runners on. They may purchase squirt guns or water balloons to splash runners, if they choose.
There is a $2 admission fee for spectators, with 50 cents of each ticket going toward fairgrounds improvement. Children under 10 are free of charge.
Lunch and concessions will be available. Other activities tentatively planned are a muddy treasure hunt for kids, slip and slides for kids, dirt sundaes (with cookie crumbs and gummy worms), water balloon slingshots, and muddy group photos.
The registration fee for the 5K is $25 per person and includes a T-shirt. The early registration deadline is Friday, July 20 at the Star at 818 Main St., to guarantee a T-shirt and size. The fee for the mile fun run is $5, which does not include a shirt. Registration is also encouraged by July 20.
People may run with friends or as teams, if they choose. They should sign up for the same wave or heat if they wish to do. Costumes/themes are encouraged, and prizes will be awarded.
All participants must complete a registration and liability form. Forms will be available at the Star at 818 Main St., at Holy Rosary Healthcare, at the MCC Centra, at Universal Athletic Service, at Red Rock Sporting Goods and at the Miles City Area Chamber of Commerce.
The first race, a 5K, will begin around 1 p.m. If numbers dictate, more 5K races will be held at 1:30 and 2 p.m. The 1-Mile fun run will be held around 2 p.m. or later.
More information about the event will be provided in the Miles City Star in coming weeks, or people may contact Marla at 234-0450 ext. 1031 or email mceditor(AT)midrivers.com.
|COOL! Are all STAR employees required to participate?
|I will be taking tickets or selling them or something but not running. Although, if it is as hot as it has been today, I may rethink that. Not running. Just wallowing in mud.
